Gone for Good Club - April 2006

Recommended Posts

Many of you are setting great goals and it's a wonderful time of year to get up, get out, and get moving. Come on everyone, join in the action and let's kick it up a notch! ;)

I was so busy all weekend that I didn't get our May challenge set up. I'll do that today!

I am definitely kicking it up a notch now guys! I am going to get back to exercising and really watching what I put in my big mouth. I need to get to 249 already!!! (Oh, that is when I am going to allow myself highlights!)

Having little rewards set up for when I reach a goal have always been a big help for me too!!

The Gone for Good Club's Spring Challenge

How it works:

On April 26th, after the final weigh in for April, I will start a May GFG Club thread. Those of you who wish to participate in the challenge should post on that thread and title your post - GFG Spring Challenge. All of your updates will be kept by you on this post only! This way we don't end up with a 100+ page thread. Simply go back to your Challenge post and Edit it to update. Everyone will be on their honor to keep a record of their daily points.

Any GFG Club Member can join at any time during the challenge. The dates of the challenge are April 26 thru May 31. The member with the most points will win.

How to earn points:

1. For each day that you drink a minimum of 64oz of Water, you earn 1 point.

2. For each day that you exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes (doesn't have to be all at one time), you will earn 2 points.

3. For each day that you do not eat foods that contain flour or sugar, you will earn 3 points. (sugar substitues allowed)

4. For each pound you lose during the challenge, you will earn 1 point.

April 26th thru May 31st is 36 days, so there is a possibility of earning 216 points. However, for those of you who achieve a perfect record in any of the first three categories by earning points every day, you will receive a 5 point bonus for each perfect category at the end of the challenge, making it possible to earn 231 points if all categories earn a bonus. Of course the weight loss will vary so we won't know until the final day (May 31st) who has won!

The reward:

The winner of the challenge will be awarded the Gone for Good Club's Medal of Honor which can be added to their signature line. (This is a slightly bigger version.) However, all who participate will receive the reward of better health and a lower number on that scale, so I want to see all of you participating! Good luck to everyone and may you all lose!

Cripes, I'm sunk! I drink sugar in my coffee every day! OH NO!!!! I can give up "Beige Foods" (ie:battered and fried) no problem. I can give up flour (this includes sourdough bread on my samich I like at Bob Evans?) Can I eat whole wheat bread? Oh please help me with #3. Spell it out. Give me some "for examples", okay? I need to know just HOW sunk I am on that one!

Either way, I'm in. Great work P'nut! Thanks!

PinkMary, DianeChef is way cool, so she'd make a great sister. I want YOU to be MINE because I think you are cool and funky and neat and fun and pretty. I like it when you hang out on LBT!

Gosh, I'm gone one day & everyone is talking about me!!! Gee, I feel SPECIAL!! ;) PinkMary & I have so much in common that we really SHOULD be sisters. Except that I am lost in America somewhere & uh......Mary, I don't even know where you live?!?!

Thanks for being inspired by me. Whoot!! Who knew that I would EVER inspire someone to exercise. Oh, my sisters will all get a kick of this. (I have very active, sporty sisters & I've always been the sedentary one!)

Speaking of my sisters - we had a family get-together yesterday & it had been 4 months since I had seen many of them. Can I just say - I MUST BE HOT!!! I walked in the room & the look on their faces was as if I'd just returned from Extreme Makeover!! :) This time I didn't crack any jokes & was just ME!!! I really think I could get use to this.

Congrats DianeChef! It is a great accomplishment to get those responses from your family. At least for me, my family is the last to notice, except for my fiance.

COUNT me in on the May Challenge! I gotta get off the sugar and flour myself. Did pretty good today, except ate 1/2 cupcake for a friend's birthday.

;) Kristin

I'm in for the challenge. I'm going to set my May goal for another 10 pounds and hope that I actually get there!! I didn't hit my goal in March and I doubt I'll be hitting in April. I think if I stick to the 30 minutes of exercise per day, I might actually have a chance!! LOL

Good luck everyone! ;)

P.S. P'Nut - I made a tiny change to your post - in red. :)

 Count me in on the May challenge! I don't think I have even posted my weight for the last 2 weeks...it's been bad. I'm still waiting for the insurance to go through and hoping that I can be banded by the end of May. The longer the insurance takes the more I worry about getting it done by then. I have to work summer school the 2nd week in June and was wanting to be healed up by then. I'm having trouble loosing the 15 or so lbs. the Dr. wants me to loose by surgery. I think I will try a liquid diet for a few days and see if that gets me started. Next week I am going on vacation to Orlando. The good thing is I will be getting my exercise - for sure. The bad thing is the food. Course I eat out all the time at home so it couldn't be much worse!! :rolleyes Do ya think??:dance:Maybe I'll start dancing... that would be a fun way to exercise!

I'm getting so excited by seeing so many of you gearing up for the challenge!

Sorry Kathy, no sugar and no flour means just that. If it contains sugar or flour, and you eat it, you dont get your 3 points for the day. I know this is a biggie to a lot of you so it carries the greatest reward for achieving it. Remember, if you can go everyother day without it, you will still earn 3 points every other day. So don't think that will count you out. If you believe you need whole wheat grains, eat brown rice. And there's nothing that any of you could say that would convince me that you need sugar. I could give in and say, ok, but just in coffee.. but I honestly believe that cutting back on sugar will help us in so many ways, so I'm sticking to the original rule on #3. (Examples of flour foods - white or wheat breads, pastas, Cookies, cakes, pie crust, bagles.. you get the idea. Example of sugars - sweet drinks, Cookies, candy, granual sugar, ice cream, jellies, syrups.. again, you get the idea. Canned fruit is ok if you chose Light Syrup or low sugar. I know that sugar substitues aren't the best, but for this challenge they will be allowed. Perhaps later on we will have a more serious challenge where even those will cost you points. *evil grin*

Thanks for finding my goof, Tricia. I've fixed it now. ;)

Hang in there Mystjin and try to make the best choices you can for now. Remember, your journey can start now whether or not you have that band inside you. Getting your head prepared for the changes in food choices will help you get a jump on things. You're in my prayers!

Lmvilla - Grilled chicken and steamed veggies baby! Salads have a lot of hidden calories in the dressings, cheese, etc. I'm so excited for you! Time has flown hasn't it??

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
