Hey all, I'm in day 5 of my preop diet and tonight I'm starving. My dr. doesn't require a preop diet- just no eating the night before BUT reading your posts inspired me and I'm on a self motivated diet. Now im so hungry i want to give up. Help me get through the night!!

Hi all, thanks! I think I mostly just needed to put it out there publicly for accountability. I did have half of an apple and then go to bed. Just had my Protein Shake and I'm headed out the door ready for a great day! Thanks!

Hi everyone' date=' I'm starting this because we are mid way through the month so I'm guessing about half of us have had the procedure done. The October Bandsters thread has been really great with all the positive comments, suggestions and support. It would be great to keep that community going.

I'm two days post surgery. My pain meds are working fine. The surgery was easier than I expected and I hope the recovery keeps going as well.

How is everyone?[/quote']

I had surgery today and it was more painful than I expected. I had hiatal her is repair and had to stay the night. I expected it to feel like my gallbladder surgery but it was a bit worse. My iv went bad and it was a while before the could replace it and give me meds but now I'm so much better. Just walked gingerly to the bathroom. Got back in bed. I wish I could go home because I'm self pay so this Overnight is costing me $4000 which might be more painful than the pain!!!! I've got the tv on for company and to drown out the alarms and bells pinging on my 4 roommates. I wonder if any of them are bandsters but I'm too ill to ask. Dr Ren banded 8 people today do if you are one of them. Say hi!! Gonna try o get some sleep. Good luck bandsters it only gets better from here.

It gets better! If you can, just sleep and walk for the next few days. Lol. That's what I did!

May you have peaceful and skinny dreams tonight!

Thanks for the support Fallon. It's day 1 post op and I'm figuring out the pain meds. When they say stay on TOP of the pain that's good advice. I had my nurse wake me at 3 am to give me meds so when I had to pee at 6 I was ok. I am asking the I've meds on the dot instead of waiting. So far it's been tornados I'VE every 4 hours, Tylenol IVF every 4 hours and I've morphine as needed, bt I haven't needed it if I take the others. Since I'm heading home today I've switched to liquid lortab. I read on here someone once said it tastes disgusting so you only take if you really need it. That made me laugh because yes, they clearly made no attempt to give it a flavor and its right yellow color only adds to its appeal. But a sip of vegetable flavored herb ox boullion washed it down. I have no hunger, am walking every few hours and looking forward to being in my own bed tonight with my remote in hand and neighbors arranged to walk my dog twice a day. Yesterday sucked. But today's already looking brighter. And I didn't mention my hospital room in NYC has a view over the river into Brooklyn that is stunning. Can we add pictures on this forum? I wish. I'd share it with you all!

There should be an "attachments" button. I'm mobile and I have it, it should definitely have it on desktop.

I'm hormonal and hungry and missing food and I find out that they're throwing my office a pizza party tomorrow. I want to boo hoo because it's the one food I've surprisingly been missing the most through this whole process. I told my boss I was calling in sick tomorrow. LOL.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
