Tomorrow's Appointment with Diet Doc

Recommended Posts

So, what's the latest in diet in nutrition? As if I don't know the answers already - eat less, exercise more, lose weight! But like Vines said, we can't give up, so I have an appointment tomorrow with the Health and Nutrition department of my insurance plan. I wonder if they'll suggest weight loss surgery? What can they tell me that I don't already know, unless the doc is a delicious slice of Heaven that motivates me to come back thinner? I hope??

Oh--if it were that easy: Having the knowledge of how to lose weight=weight loss.

I really think that many of us obese know more about health and nutrition than most nutritionists, dieticians, etc. I know the caloric information of most foods--besides casseroles, etc. by heart. I know how many calories I burn in 30 min. withalmost all types of exercise. I know, I know, I know what it takes to lose weight. It's all in my head.

Ahh--I'm rambling. DeLarla, I wish you the best tomorrow. Maybe you'll learn something new tomorrow that will change your life forever. If it does, please let us now.

Have a great day!!!

When you were a teenager and your parents told you stuff over and over and over again? Then when you were older a light came on and it all made sense?

PS The pictures of the convention were great!

I agree 100% I know the calorie counts of almost all foods by heart as well as the carb and fat counts. I know everything there is to know about almost every diet plan know to humankind! I often thought I could easily be a nutritionist and pass the test without even studying!

Well, my visit didn't go too well because we never even talked about weight loss. Doc is too concerned with my esophageal problems, which have gotten worse instead of better. She was very serious that I have to get my problems under control or I'll be facing about a 25% change of esophageal cancer due to my Barrett's Esophagitis. I have lesions on my esoph, which were detected during the endoscopie that revealed my band erosion. Now my symptoms are keeping me up at night since I haven't been respecting dietary rules.

I'm supposed to give up everything, and I mean everything I love. No more Soup even! Did I listen last night? Nope. Did I listen today? Well, even though I have cottage cheese and Saltine's for lunch, a Coke accidentally fell into my pie hole for Breakfast.

What I really need is a straight jacket.

DeLarla, are you on any kind of antidepressants? And or would you consider them?

I went to the doc last Friday for depression and she gave me Welbutrin. I know for some people it doesn't work and they don't like it, but the folks it works for it seems to work really well. Anyway, she told me that it can promote weight loss, and I've found it to have an head hunger suppressant effect. More days than not this week, even when my stomach was growling, I just haven't felt like eating. On Monday I only had one meal just because I didn't even think about food.

Worth a shot?

dammit Lisa! Do not make me come down there to kick your bodacious butt, cause you know I will.

You know what you need to do, and damit, you'd better start doing it. If the big picture is too hard to look at, look at one day, one hour, one meal at a time.

I"m not saying you can't have cokes ever again, I'm just saying not right now. (((((((((DeCalarla)))))))))

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
