Please Help Me Understand Post Op Diet Rules Normal Diet Importance Of Carbs & Cals

Recommended Posts

I wouldnt suggest frozen meals because in all reality they really are not healthy just because it says they are. I eat roughly 800 calories a day. I get about 90 grams of Protein and I do not drink shakes. I would rather cosume my calories in food then in drinks. But then again I am a vegan so I get protein from greek yogurt, Beans sometimes, tofu, vegan burgers, I do not reccomend shakes after six months post op. I have been banded almost three years and Protein Shakes are a thing of the past. I dont want them anymore. I want food and drink only Water and Decaf coffee in the morning. Its just me and my way. I cant eat meat at all so I quit trying. I will once in a while eat tuna fish but usually not often.

RhondaMarie, that is exactly where I was. It was really hard for me to get used to not eating at normal times. It took me 4 months to get it through my head every time I saw my NUT as she kept telling me "only eat when you are hungry." she said to quit counting the Protein as I was drinking it down, because I was never hungry! She said eat the right food, Protein first and only when I am hungry. It was slow at first until my brain caught up with me. I had a stall at four months out until I listened to her and now I am losing 3 lbs a week and still not hungry. A glass of lite choc soy milk on my way to work as I don't drink coffee and two meals. Tons of Water, a glass of it with me where ever I go!

I agree with others. Everyone is different and each NUT/surgeon has different programs. In the beginning I thought I was doing the right thing by following everyone else's lead, but it wasn't working for me.

You need to constantly work with your WLS team. That is what they are there for and that is what you are paying them for!

I am definitely following the post op plan my team has mapped out for immediately after surgery. I can see that my progression thru the stages is way slower than most & that's OK. I will meet with the NUT in November for my personal specific diet.

I just know when I plateaued last time, upping my intake gave me that boost.

I can't even drink a whole Protein shake in less than 2 hrs.

I had about .75 pkg of oatmeal this morning, less than a .5 cup of Soup for lunch, half a serving of almonds & I made myself finish 5 oz of tuna over 2 hrs. Even counting Gatorade, coffee & Creamer ... I am barely over 400 calories.

I guess the most important thing is that I am eating the right foods. I am not going to drink a milkshake or have ice cream for the sake of calories.

I do need to get some greek yogurt in the house tho. That's a good thing.... I just didn't have it b/c is was a no no on the pre-op diet.

Sounds like you are doing good! I have heard others say that we may not be eating enough. That's why I say get with your NUT. Keep up the good work and hopefully it will all catch up.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
