My op is 10/18/2012 one day after you. I will be starting my pre-op diet on Thursday. Each doc seem to be different, my pre-op is basically 4 shakes a day and 1 cup of veggies. This is what stressed me out the most, but like you I am so excited to start this new journey. I know it won't be easy, but I think that finding this site has inspired and helped me feel less alone. (no support groups in my area, so turning to this site and reading and educating myself helps)

Keep me posted on your journey so far, and I will with mine if you are interested.

Donna

Hello my name is April and I am new at this..I had my surgery on August 24th 2012 and I was so nervous and I almost backed out of it..I did well with the surgery and went home the same day..I had a two week liquid diet and that was really rough for me but I lost 20 pounds before surgery..And after surgery I lost another 6..I am now going in tomorrow for my first fill and once again I am nervous but everyone states that it is not bad. I am happy I did the surgery and like you I am so ready to go shopping Lol..I am sure everything will go great for you and if you have any questions please ask and I will try to answer...Take care and good luck on your new journey..

hi, i was banded yesterday, and it really wasnt bad....im very sore now,but so far,no gas...after reading all the posts on here, the gas pains were the one thing i was worried about! ive been taking gasx strips every hr,to kinda head off any gas...and ive been getting up and walkin aroung my house a few times an hour.

what really helped me with the pre op diet was chicken broth! low sodium....really helped me to stay full!

Angelize,

I was banded on the 5th of oct 2 days ago. No pain meds today. Mucous s a big issue because I feel like I'm choking while trying to hack it up. Gas is almost gone but the first day it was pretty bad. I had it in my shoulders and back. I just did what I was told; walked a lot and did feet and lung exercises.

Woke myself up this morning because of nausea. Took a pill right away and that helped. But all in all it was easy. I'm upright and mobile.

I lost 14.6 lbs on my two week preop diet.

Diet consisted of 4 oz Protein, 4 oz fruit, 4 ounces of veggies. - divided up with three meals. Two shakes for snack, one with a cup of milk and one with Water. All in all a 800 cal diet. Hungry only the first 2 days. I'd suggest starting it on a weekend so you don't try to balance it at work.

Angelize,

So glad you have it too. I thought something was wrong. I also try to remove it clearing the throat instead of coughing but I think I'm supposed to do both so I don't get pneumonia. But I am afraid of popping a stitch too.

My Dr. Not only stitches the band in place he stitches the lower part of the stomach to the top- to encase the band and prevent slipping. So I am all kinds of worried that i'll spring a leak.

yea my instructions say no sudden movements, but if you have to cough, isnt that a sudden movement? i do feel better after i cough, but im so afraid im gonna loosen something or pop a stitch too.

also,my parents came over today, and i had my mom take off the first 2 bandage layers(doc said today)....but i was afraid to take off the bandage covering my port...so thats still on. its right underneath my breastbone, and i feel like my bra is gonna irritate it....any advice, anyone??

LOL I find alot of inspiration here. Pre-op diet going much better than expected.. Im really NOT hungry ( well, maybe at work from 230 ish-330) but its workin. trying to stick with the h20 intake, but its very hard , I'm not a big drinker, bt i guess that comes with time,, I have my last weigh- in on Tuesday, I sure hope they dont want 50 bucks (copay) just to throw me up on the scale, im no seeing the Doc.. Getting slightly expensive, ya know????? ;)

Jersey girl ,

Let me tell you that h2o intake is even harder after banding! I was banded 3 days ago and it has been struggle to drink anything. My stomach puts out bubbles like an office Water cooler. So just saying, hydrate now because it may take a few days to get in the groove after surgery.

My name is Jim from Dickson Tn. I started jumping through hoops about 2 years ago. I backed out of the surgery about 2 weeks before my surgery date last time. Now I'm scheduled for the 29th & keep catching myself looking for an excuse to back out again! Lol. I keep seeing great success stories on here then I see where someone's had the band for 6 months with no weight loss! Just scares me. This whole process has been stressing on me but also financially stressing on my family. So I'm scared to death ill fail to lose weight. Guess I'm being too negative.

Jim, any other fears? Just fear of failing? I don't think you are being negative. I think you may be looking for a way out though. You have every reason to worry about what you are worrying about. You must be READY for the life change. Only with determination will you succeed. The good news is that you are in control. Your success will depend on you. Good news is you will have a lifeline that will help you.

I welcome you wholeheartedly and hope you can prepare mentally for a life altering change.

Going to YouTube and watching gherlinBGone's journey really helped me. Her mind set is spot on.. You may enjoy it as well!

Keep us posted.

Thought that said Texas and thought we were almost neighbors so this post is edited. Lol. But my advice is to be in it whole heartedly or not at all. You're bound to fail if you think you will. It's a lifestyle change and you have to be committed. Don't let anyone here convince you to get it. Read the forums and find what our obstacles were, learn from them, learn the pros and cons, learn everything you can and decide for yourself! I spent a very long time researching before I got surgery and this forum helped me so much. Google is crap for researching the band (in my opinion) and has a lot of generic doctor answers (aka people who know how it works but not how it feels), lol, I like a real answer from someone who knows first hand, hell, I ask these people what's up with my body before I ask my doctor! Lol. Good luck either way. =)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
