Itchy Itchy Itchy Itchy!

Recommended Posts

Had surgery abt 11 days ago, invisions were closed using steristrips. The healing skin is SO itchy and my Dr office is closed. I know neosporin makes an anti itch formula: what were ur directions? Were u allowed to put anything on ur incisions?

I was told not to put anything on them, just let the Water run over in the shower without scrubbing or rubbing.

Granted I'm no doctor and I'm not qualified to give medical advice, but if I were going to put anything on it Neosporin would be my first choice, too.

I was also told not to put anything on the incisions. Just shower and pat it dry.

You can get a tube of Hydrocortisone cream or gel for about $1 at any store. I use it whenever my skin itches. I don't remember my incisions being all that itchy - of course, it was almost 3 yrs ago and my memory is foggy!

Good luck!

I am also 11 days post op and today I am super itchy, not the incisions, but everywhere around them..........where the steri strips where...actually just around my big incision, not so much the smaller ones I am going to put something on the skin, not the incisions.

My strips have been off for a week, and the nurse did say that if when I took them off they where red I could use polysporin, so you should be good.

Good luck to you.

This was the worse part for me I tried to scratch "around" the incisions I had scratches all over my poor belly. Hang in there! ;)

I've not had my surgery yet, but have had other surgeries and am also a nurse. You should never put any kind of cream directly on an incision until it is healed. The itching you are feeling is most likely the result of healing. When the area under the incision starts to heal it forms scar which can be intensely itchy. Not much helps. If after you are healed it bothers you try breaking open a Vitamin e capsule and rubbing it on, or get a tiny tube of aquaphore.

Now if it is the skin surrounding the incision that itches, like where the adhesive from the steri strips or other tape is, you may have a mild sensitivity to the adhesive. Scrubbing adhesve off skin doesn't do much, but you can put a couple drops of baby oil or mineral oil on a cotton ball and rub to remove excess adhesive, gently wash off with a mild soap, pat dry and if you need to, then apply either some sort of hydrocortisone cream or benedryl cream, keeping off the actual incision.

If you find you are scratching and can't stop try a tiny bit of oral benedryl in a pinch.

I did this too. Couldn't help it. Didn't use any creams, just washed with soap during shower and patted dry

My post op care instructions said the itching would happen and to do just this! Great advice!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
