Help!!!!

Recommended Posts

I've had to have a lot of my Fluid removed because of heartburn and reflux that started about a year ago. Now I've gained back 15-20 pounds because I have no restriction. Every time I get a fill I start with the severe reflux and heartburn with eating. Has anyone gone through this? I don't know what to do. I have PCOS and I can't seem to drop the weight with diet and exercise.

Has your doctor put you on medication for your reflux?

call the dr and let them know what is going on and to advise you. they would offer you the best (what is going on). hope you feel better.

I have been on medication. But I only get reflux when I get a fill. So he's taken the Fluid out since my problem is related to my fills. I have an appt next Tuesday. I'm hoping I can get to my sweet spot again. I was so close to my goal (w/in 10 pounds and now I'm 30 away :(. I'm just at a loss as to why after 4 years I'm having this problem when I was doing so good.

Have they checked for band slippage?

No, because he says I don't have any symptoms of slippage. I've asked him several times. This all started when I got a fill last year after going a year without one to help me lose the last 10-15 pounds, and after I did that I started having problems with reflux and ended up sick for a month throwing up, so the doc took most of my Fluid out to let my stomach heal and that's when I gained my weight back. Since last January I haven't been successful when I get a full because my reflux is back and I end up having to take my fluid out.

It seems to be a common problem a couple of years out and I have no idea why it happens. Something similar happened to me earlier this year too. It's really annoying as it seems that if there is enough Fluid for some restriction then reflux occurs - if at a level where there is no reflux then there is no restriction either.I would love to know how and why the 2 are connected.

Reflux was my ONLY symptom of my slip. I could keep anything down, no pain, no nausea - just severe reflux at night. I'm going thru almost the same thing right now. ABout 6 mths ago, my band slipped. My dr took out 1/2 of my 10cc fill and let it rest for 4 weeks. Without doing a followup xray to make sure it was fixed (now I wish I had insisted on it), they started the fill process when I told him I had no more reflux. The first 1cc fill was fine. No reflux - but also no restriction. The 2nd 1cc fill started my reflux again. Went back in for another xray. My band hadn't moved at all since the slip. So my dr just took out the 1cc he had previously given me that had sent me over the edge. Said he was treating my symptoms not the xray. The reflux went away, and I have a little restriciton, but at nite, it's like I don't have any at all. I still have occasional reflux (about 2x a week). In the past few months, I've gained about 10 lbs.

I know exactly how you're feeling. Reflux sucks. So does having little to no restriciton. Especially after having for years and doing well. I originally had only 15 lbs to goal. Now I have 25. It sucks. I have no clue what to do either. If I should go back to the dr and demand that he fix my band, start all over again, all the while paying out of pocket for it and driving 6 hrs round trip, or just leaving it alone, thankful for the little restriciton I do have.... hmmmm. what to do....

Good luck!

Marci

Wow Marci!

It sounds a lot like me. The only thing is that I only have reflux after a fill. Once the fluids gone in fine. My doc insists its not a slip and says that my EGD last November showed the band was in place. I'm at a loss.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
