September 23, 201213 yr I was just wondering if drinking from a straw was bad? Dr office rec. drinking from a straw to help me get use to not gulping, so whats your input??
September 23, 201213 yr I have never heard of any Dr recommending a straw, but we know all Drs are different. My Dr said not to drink from straw or chew gum b/c of extra air in your pouch.
September 23, 201213 yr Author To be on the safe side I will call in the morning to make sure I heard correctly . After all I am hearing impaired and may have heard wrong. It makes sense NOT to drink from a straw . Thank you
September 23, 201213 yr My doc didn't say no straw, but as u know they r all different with different beliefs. Good luck!
September 23, 201213 yr Yes this is just another example how every doctor seems to have their own ideas of what works. My doc has no problem with straw use and I use them regularly.
September 23, 201213 yr My Dr. is okay with using a straw. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using LapBandTalk
September 23, 201213 yr Now I'm in a conundrum. I'm an advocate on listening to your Dr, but really love a straw with protein shakes. What to do, what to do?
September 23, 201213 yr LOL, I don't mean to laugh but the other day I for the first time drank through a straw. I was super busy, out all day and in a car when I realized I had drank through a straw until my drink was already gone. OMG, I freaked out and texted my buddy (you know who you are) and was reassured I would be okay. I was waiting for something to happen, something bad. Nothing, I was fine. Wheeeeeeeeew!
September 23, 201213 yr I don't think my doctor every mentioned not to drink from a straw but it gives me a very uncomfortable feeling so I don't use them.
September 23, 201213 yr depends on the individual doctor i guess. you hear so many different opinions mine said no to straws
September 23, 201213 yr Author Well I do know I get gas and burp A LOT when I use a straw , do I am just not going to drink from a straw . Thank you all for your input.
September 23, 201213 yr I've been using a straw in a small cup and haven't had any problems. Today I sipped on isopure and chewed gum. And was so excited to burp to get the gas out. I think if u had a big cup with long straw that would be bad because as drink goes down you suck in more air.
September 23, 201213 yr No straw for first several months... Once healed my dr allowed it. His theory is that air gets in a straw and gets into the stomach when you are drinking. And when you are healing he doesn't want that complication.
