Recommended Posts

Hmpfh!!

Why do people say that? Is that there way of saying...You're hotter than me I think you need to be fat again?

I don't even know how to handle that statement when someone says it!?

Do I say politley...Well, thank you however I think you might need to think before you open your mouth?

I had a friend tell me that yesterday....She said I wasnt sure if I was going to talk to you about it over the phone or til Saturday when we went out...I really didnt know what to day....?

I dont know what to tell you because I have the same issue. My mil was flat out rude about it. Telling me how I was too thin and the way she seen me 4 months ago was just perfect. I just tell them I work my butt off to lose the weight and I'm healthy.

I mean seriously, they werent coming up to me telling me I was too fat.

I think there is the "jealousy" too skinny comment; and then there is the "you look sick" too skinny comment. I think you should examine the comment maker's motives. I say this because I had a good friend lose weight a couple of years ago and she started looking really sickly. She put about five or six pounds back on and looked great. There really is such a thing as too skinny!

YES, that's exactly what they mean. Ignore them and keep moving towards your healthy weight! If they can't love you skinny then you'll have fun finding NEW friends.

(she's jealous... it's not like your frail and weigh 98 pounds)

NICE work by the way!

I actually got that for the first time last week. I was pretty surprised. I think my friends are so used to seeing me morbidly obese, that's the version of me they are comfortable with even if it's not healthly. I still have 50 lbs to go til a healthy BMI so i don't plan on stopping!

It's not about looks... It's about health. Lose the amount of weight you need to to reach a healthy range for your height.

People are use to seeing us fat, so when we lose weight we don't look like ourselves to them. I say work your butt off until YOU are proud. Bump everybody else. do what makes you happy. Those that love you, will accept the "skinny" and happier you.

Keep up the good work :)

Too skinny? I'm sorry but if someone is almost 200 lbs they are not too skinny. To me too skinny is under 120 or borderline anorexia. I don't know. That is just rude.

This thread reminds me of one of my closest friends. I have known her about 5 years and we both struggle with weight.

However, she has been nothing but supportive since I got my band. She tells me my weight loss inspires her to make changes in her own lifestyle. She said to me "I would not care if you were 100 or 500 pounds. You were always beautiful. I am happy for your weight loss because I know how bad YOU have wanted this. This is the version of you I have always seen". That is a true friend.

Now, some friends may make discouraging comments to us as we lose weight, but they are not trying to be hurtful. But If there are people in your life who INTENTIONALLY are negative about your weight loss, cut them loose. Life is too short!

*gets off soapbox* LOL

Like someone else said, when everyone is used to seeing you larger, it is shocking to see you in a normal weight and it is easier to think someone has gotten too thin. Take it as a compliment.

Ha ha I get this all the time there is 2 sides to it. The close ppl that loved you for who you were see a big change physically and emotionally and any one that's happy doesn't usually want change in there life so they get worried thinking your gonna change. Then you have the haters that try and say you look sick or tell every one your addicted to drugs lol I cop that all the time ha ha I just laugh it off, be cause I lost 65 kilos ( 146 pounds ) in 7 months I was hearing this constantly but I got over it. But to the ppl that mattered in my life I would just remind them that I'm a fat person at heart and always will be but I would be dead a lot sooner if I kept up that lifestyle so please don't try and persuade me to be that guy again cause it really wouldn't be hard for me to go back (putting on 8 kilos in the last month showed that lol). But that's how I handled that

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
