Those In The Green Zone... Do You Eat Breakfast?

Recommended Posts

hey everyone...

i was banded july 2 (about 2.5 months ago) and i THINK i'm about in the green zone... still trying to figure out if all the discomfort when i eat and getting stuck is from just eating too big of bites or if its from the fills. personally, i think its just i forget and eat "like i used to".

anyway... mornings are tough with how tight it gets overnight. i heard a lot of banders dont eat Breakfast and lately i've been having only coffee in the morning. do most people not have breakfast? have a shake? coffee?

About twice a week I eat breakfast. Sometimes I wake up hungry and I'll eat some yogurt, or an egg and a pc of bacon. Most of the time tho I'm not hungry till around 1 or 2. I don't know about you but eating when I wasn't hungry is what got me in this mess in the first place!

My first meal of the day (whether it's 7 am or 1 pm) is only a few bites. If I do eat breakfast, I can always eat more the rest of the day. Like today, we went to Red Robin at 2pm. I can usually eat about 5 fries and 1/3 of my burger (when I eat breakfast). I didn't eat breakfast this morning and managed to eat 2bites of my burger and about 3 fries. A Red Robin burger is usually 3 meals for me. Before being banded, I could've eaten a whole one plus extra fries!

Anyway, you just wanted to know about breakfast, huh?!

I don't eat breakfast except for the weekend if I am not able to plan my meals around my hunger. Usually because I amout on the golf course for five hours. Then I have one scrambled egg which holds me over until I have lunch mid afternoon.

I do not go without breakfast because I can't, I go without because I am not hungry. If you are not eating because you can't, then you are too tight. You need to find the happy medium. Do not live with it too tight.

I agree with Sue...I could eat breakfast if I wanted to, but I often don't care to sit at the table and take my time to chew bites...my band is much tighter in the am, but far from too tight. It is the perfect balance, and I love it!

I have a shake for breakfast. Usually not until at least lunch before I can eat something.

I have coffee 7 am and usually want a shake or Protein Bar at 10 am. I am usually not hungry before then. I also don't want to have to concentrate on eating when I am rushing in the morning. I need a hot coffee to open me up in the am.

I can't eat very well until after being up 3 hrs or so. During the week I have a carnation sugar free instant breakfast w skim milk. On the weekends I usually just eat after chores or errands.

Hello sylviau, good question, I am way to tight in the mornings I have recently changed to a warm cup of coffee with one scoop of vanilla Unjury, gives it that heavy cream and sugar taste (yummy) great pick me up, Protein intake, and helps things move through the system a little faster. every once in awile I will have an egg over easy.

I have my coffee in the morning, then about 2 hrs later I have an egg or yogurt or oatmeal. I eat when I'm hungry, I have found having mushie foods for breakfast work best for me.

My NP told me that she feels her most successful bandsters eat breakfast. She said if your band is tight in the morning to prep your band with some warm liquid. I try to eat a small bowl of Fiber One (the twigs) Cereal with almond light milk mixed with Protein powder. Keeps me full until lunch time.So I always try to eat breakfast. If I can't when I wake up, I do when I get into work around 9 am.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
