Lost My Enthusiam...

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for just over a month and I've barely lost 4 pounds since surgery. It's beginning to worry me. I guess I'm just wondering if this is 'nornal' or at least something that other people have experienced? I haven't gotten a fill yet but I will be on this coming Friday. Hopefully once I get that then things can start moving a little? I feel like I can eat just as much food as I could prior to this surgery and I'm bummed out about it. I'm also still in college and having the self control is a lot harder when your appetite is just the same as it was before. Ugh. :( this is one of the main reasons I only decided to tell a few people about this surgery. I don't want people to have expectations and then have them be disappointed or judge me when I haven't met them. I know this whole journey im going through is for me and my health, but it's really hard not to care about what others think and expect. Gahh...I don't know. Tomorrow's a new day. Hopefully it goes better than today...

Thanks for letting me have this little vent sesh ;)

Some people do not lose much weight the first few months post op because they do not want to white knuckle diet. I would just advise that you watch what you're eating and following the Protein first idea. I would also stick to the 1c rule and eat as you get hungry, just to avoid any possible dialations (however unlikely) until you get better satiation.

This period is what everyone likes to call bandster hell, but it will pass.

Don't give up...I lost more weight going into this second year!!!!! I was a size 24...in now a size 12. It's definitely a journey and you will have plenty of ups and downs, plateaus you may question why not faster. It's ok. Your fat will mold back to your body, a little weight will drop, size will get smaller maybe wen weight is not going down. I've had these days. Listen to tour body for times you know you need a fill. Hang in there you will succeed.

Nearly all of us go through what you are going through but most of us did lose more than 4 lbs the first month. I see that you have a blog/youtube presence and you lost 25 lbs before surgery? If you lost a lot of weight on the pre-op diet, this could be why your post surgical weight loss is so low. But, like the others said, you're in bandster hell and it will take some fills to get you over this hump. Took me 6 fills and 6 months to get there. I only lost 12 lbs the first 4 months and no I'm over 50 lbs lost. So, it will get better.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
