Guidance Plz.....waves Of Pain

I am on Postop Day 5 and am having waves of pain in my stomach. I took a little bit of pain med and it helped but I am trying to not take the meds unless I have no choice. Is this normal? It feels like a fist wraps around my stomach then releases after a few seconds. It is worse with eating/drinking and when standing. Any advice?
