Not Really In The Mood To Eat! Just Checkin In

Recommended Posts

Since I've been banded in March I have noticed that I'm sometimes not in the mood to eat. I feel that most days I have to make myself eat but I will drink crystal light all day. Even before I got my surgery I never turned to food to make me happy or fix my problems! I just loved to eat! I come from a family of cooking folks! Sometime I forget to eat. I've been having some problems eating food lately and my best yet is to just stay away from it for I don't have to have that feeling of it getting stuck and having to throw up!

you really do need to eat though... develop good eating habits. It would be far easier for you to have a small amount and chew well. If you do this you shouldnt have problems with getting stuck. . Most problems of getting stuck are caused through eating too quickly... brought on by hunger or distraction. Also, are you on Vitamins? you need the nutritional balance that eating brings. Without it you could develop illnesses caused through malnutrition.

Because I have some days where I don't feel like eating! I think I should be on some type of Vitamins. I think Imma start drinking Meal Replacements to meet up for not eating food. Sometimes it can be something that I have chewed It just has a really had time going down. Things that I was eating after my surgery like fish tuna fish etc went down with no problem then but now I have a problem sometimes eating it:(

i know that feeling. Some days i can really enjoy a small meal and hardly even be aware that ive got the band... other days it gives me hell. Im sure that it tightens from day to day, either through hormones, how tired i am, how emotional i am.

Learning how to read how it is from day to day is an ongoing process. i have a very small cup of black coffee of a morning first thing and then within five minutes have egg and bacon ... enough to fit in the middle of a very small bread and butter plate. Some days it goes down really well and i enjoy the meal so much, other mornings i have to leave half because the band is reacting differently. It goes with the territory i think. I cant predict how its going to be. However, in spite of this, im very positive about the band and the role its playing in my body. i havent regretted having it in, even the times when ive been so miserable with being stuck.

I agree that if you really dont want to eat you should be on Vitamins. you dont want to have health issues after coming this far. I know that Vitamin drinks are good... but they arent as good as having solids. Are you still seeing your specialist?? how long between visits?/

Christina... i think that its important to see a nutritionalist. He/she would be able to help you through the issues you have now, instead of going on a long time and getting entrenched with any bad eating patterns. Do you have access to a nutritionalist ?? You may not need one for more than one or perhaps two sessions...

I'm going to say something a lot of dieters don't agree with but IMO: If you're not hungry, dont eat. Before being banded I didn't even really know what "hungry" felt like because I was fixated on eating out of habit, finish the plate regardless when I was full, dont skip Breakfast or Ill "gain weight?? The band is a tool that gives a feeling of satiaty which is suppose to help us feel the need to eat less so we can actually lose weight. Why on earth would anyone want to change habits from overeating to eating on a schedule that doesn't coincide with their bodies needs? Sounds to me by your "not in the mood" statement like you're in the green zone and its doing its job. As an ex over eater it may feel wrong to not be eating 2 or 3... or 5 times a day, but that's what you got banded for. Now if its a case of avoidance because you are too tight or not eating correctly-- too fast, to large of bites or portions, eating the "bad" foods then its just a matter of loosening your band or learning to follow the band rules. The band is temperamental so even on your most well behaved days you may still get stuck but if so, just go to liquids until you feel comfortable back on solids. If it persists you may be too tight so go back to your doc for an adjustment.

Just make sure you are listening to your body and eating for the purpose of nutrition and only nutrition until you're at maintainence. No one can really tell you what your body is need of other than your body. We have reserves of fat that we are trying to get our body to use or else we wouldn't be banded so if your band has allowed restriction and you're not feeling hungry dont force it. When you do eat, make sure you start with and get your Protein down first. Eat Fiber if you can but if you're not hungry just take Fiber supplement (ie: metamucil), since you're not eating much stay away from empty calorie foods. Stay hydrated-- but again drink what you feel you need to. Don't go by generic numbers go by your own body. Take a Multivitamin every day-- this replaces all the nutrients you are missing from meals-- and probably still would be missing even if you did eat, as chances are you can't eat much. You don't need to see a doctor or nutritionist to get a Multivitamin they are over the counter. Just make sure it's got 100% of everything including folic acid and Vitamin B12 as some do not. If you have any other conditions like anemia or arthritis then other supplements like Iron and Calcium pills should also be taken but if you have other conditions your doctor should be letting you know what supplements to take. But despite what many people will say theres no reason to force yourself to eat XX calories a day. You're under doctors supervision by being banded-- if they thought you were starving by the band they wouldn't fill you and by ethics they would be removing all the saline. We as overweight people are in no risk of starving to death so long as we have reserves! They would not have banded someone who would be at risk with lower calorie intake in the first place. Listen to your body-- when its hungry or dificient in a nutrient it's going to speak up. Going against your bodys signals and trying to force eat out of habit or because it's just "time for Breakfast, lunch or dinner" or any other reason other than actual NEED is what got us into the band in the first place. Eat your Protein when you can-- if not- drink it, take a multivitamin, stay hydrated and listen to your body. Good luck! ;)

I agree - if you're not hungry don't eat. Eating just because some external stimulus such as the clock says you must is crazy. You should learn to eat when you are hungry .

So... I thought we had to feed our body three or four times a day for it to be efficient and lose?

I only ate one to two meals a day before banded. They had to train me to eat.

agree with the other posters. if you are hungry, eat. if not why eat? but you must take your Vitamins forever and ever. but eat good lean Protein, fresh veggies/fruits when you do eat to keep your body nourished. :)

Okay I am almost 4 years out and I DO NOT EAT WHEN I AM NOT HUNGRY I take the Vitamins I drink Protein and I have not lost my hair my teeth haven't fallen out and I have lost the weight.

My band did what it was suppose to do. I had experiences with PBing to tight to loose. But never did I eat if I wasn't hungry it just doesn't make sense to me;

Some days I am hungry somedays I am not.

I have found eating a little bit and then waiting helped with the getting stuck, sometimes I just leave the table and start clearing the pans and then eat a little more. Being a mom I Learned to jump up a lot so guess that is working for me now. I have found when you are hungry you eat... Just do not eat garbage even if it goes down easier.

Just found this on the lapband site

http://www.lapband.com/local/files/ALG_LAP_08084_B_011_AD_1C_lr_PostOp_Brochure.pdf

It clearly states eat ONLY when you are hungry About 3 small meals a day ( that means you can eat less)

I'm so confused. My NUT tells me to eat three meals a day and two Snacks. I go many times without feeling hungry, at all, and miss a meal or two. But then I make up for it at night, still a small meal (protein, veggie, starch if desired). If I don't eat, I end up seeing the NUT, being weighed and finding out I've lost muscle, not fat.

I want to eat only when I'm hungry, but that leaves a hole in my food journal that I have to account for. I am not a volume eater, I just chose the wrong things to eat. Right now I'm eating properly, but just not so much. I see my NUT tomorrow, will talk to her about all this. Someone mentioned that they need their NUT to train them on how to eat, I think I'm one who needs to retrain myself. One day I want to eat everything I can't, the next I don't feel like eating anything at all. Like I said, I'm so confused....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
