How Soon Can I Get Another Fill?

Recommended Posts

Just had 1st fill Tuesday. Have an appointment in 1 month. My friend went back 10 days after his 1st for more. Is that normal?

I've gone a couple of times with only 2 weeks in-between.

3 weeks for me. Most docs prefer you wait at least 2-4 weeks between because with some bandsters it can take up to 2 weeks before the fill becomes effective.

10 days is the extreme I would think.

My surgeon will refuse to do a fill more frequently than every 6 weeks...no exceptions.

You know, it's easy to see why they would do this. That time between fills was so valuable to me to learn how to eat properly and I don't think I really got it till my 6th fill. I only went 3 weeks twice but the other times it was closer to 40 days.

And I would imagine if a doctor has 500+ patients and he allowed them to come in every two weeks or so he'd never have time for surgery. Of course, many docs now have their nurses administer fills.

I agree with you...though I have had only 2 fills to date, I needed to learn how to eat again after each of them. We do need time to adjust, both our eating patterns and the tissues near the band. I've also learned that both feelings of stress and the outside temperature will tighten my band (high outside temps = tighter band).

The post fill adjustment is like a learning curve to me; as you mentioned the more experience you have, the more you understand your body and your band. A valuable opportunity to learn, if we choose to take advantage of it.

This transfers some additional responsibility for my weight loss to me, however I'm willing and able to accept it.

Mine were supposed to be at 3 weekly intervals but of course when I tried to book the Dr's were too full and I had to wait longer.

Why do the fills sometimes take 2 weeks to take effect? Is it because of swelling after getting a fill and then you really feel what restriction it's really providing (hope that makes sense)?

It's a mystery to me. Mine took effect almost immediately.

I wouldn't want big fills 2 weeks apart, but for fills of less than 1/2 cc, you can probably get them closer together.

I got my first fill three weeks post op and every two weeks after that and I'm certain I'm where I need to be after three fills with no problems so far except for a few occasions when I didn't know I had restriction and got stuck on broccoli for the first time, thank goodness it went down after a few mins.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
