I have 10.5cc in my band right now. while i eat less than i did before the lapband, i have not reached the green zone. My advice: be patient, continue getting your fills at least once month, exercise daily.

I had lap band surgery on April 9th of this year. I have a "Lap Band AP Large" with a max fill volume of 14 cc. I got 3 cc in first fill and 2 cc in second fill. I have lost 35 pounds (includes pre-op diet). Honestly, I feel like I have done all of the work through diet and exercise (I joined Anytime Fitness). I am scheduled for my 3rd fill in September. I had no idea it was going to take this long to get to a "green zone". My willpower is fading fast . . . just as it did in the past with other diets. I must have been wearing rose colored glasses because I missed the part about Lap Bandster HELL ~ whew ~ I have absolutely no restriction -- so it sounds like we are in the same boat!

As a new person looking to get this surgery these comments really make me rethink it. I do not want to wait a year untill i feel restrictions. By dieting for a year i think i can loose 100lbs. The reason i wanna get this done is because i wanna have a tool that stops me from piggin' out like what i am doing now. Buy to wait for 9 months or so to have that affect really sound discouraging. I am aftaid that if i feel no restrictions i will fall in my old habits quickly. I cannot succeed in deiting thats why i am lioking for surgical help but to have it done and know that us there but its not doing anything really makes me reconsider. Maybe i am just a complainer

Just some facts that may help you...

The band will not stop you from pigging out. It's purpose is not to stop you from eating, nor is it to make you feel stuffed full. The band's purpose is so that you can be satisfied with less food for longer periods of time. Being satisfied does not mean full nor does it mean unable to eat. It simply means you're not physically hungry.

A big mistake people make is thinking the band will physically stop them from eating. Very often you could easily eat more than the 1 cup or less portion we're advised to stick to. But, just because we can eat more doesn't mean we should.

The band helps tremendously to help hunger, but even on smaller portions you have to change your eating habits to healthy ones for a lifetime. The work is still very much ours to do and if changes aren't made, you won't lose.

Mind you, it doesn't matter which weight loss surgery you choose, you still have to eat healthy if you want to lose weight. That's not specific to the band alone.

Understanding what the band does and doesn't do is really important, just like changing eating habits to healthy ones is important. When you do the work and use the band as it was meant to be used, you can be very successful losing weight.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Mis73 thank you for some words of wisdom. When i said pigging out i meant eating large quantities in one seating. The band's job should be to make me feel full with a lot less food and keep me satisfied for a longer time. I understand that even when i dobget full on less food if my choices are poor that it will not work. I am not so concerned about sticking to healthy choices but rather feeling satisfied with less. But from what i understand and from what most of bandsters are saying until you reach your "green zone" it is pretty much like not having the band, IS THIS TRUE? DO I FEEL ANY RESTRICTION IF IT HASNT BEEN FILLED? My biggest concern is sticking with the discipline of my diet until i reach the green zone which what previous few posts said might take a long time.

Chubsy-my band date was May 14, 2012. I am 3 months post op, down 45 lbs and just had my 3rd fill. Now 6cc's in a 10cc band. I think this last fill made me too tight and may have to get a 1/2cc unfill to hit my "green zone". That being said everyone is different as to when they get to the "green zone" and every surgeon will be different as to how much they will fill you at each visit. don't be discouraged with your research on the band. When you talk to your surgeon about your concerns. I really like my results so far and would recommend the band to anyone. I wish you luck in whatever decision you make.

It is true for many. It takes time to get the right amount of Fluid in your band. That's why the time between surgery and good restriction is often called 'bandster hell'.

It's a bit rough but totally worth it.

I used to over eat. I was banded feb 1 and haven't had a fill although I may not have the same restriction as someone who has had a fill. I do get full with 1 cup of food. And I usually feel icky if I do over eat. I'm down 83 lbs so the band is different for all.

I'm amazed st the amount of weight some have lost...85 lbs?? Really? I was banded feb 27 and have only lost 45. Losing it slow and not gaining but I sure would like to have better results. I have had 2 fills and was a bit overfilled the 2nd time but I got through it and now it's better. I am scheduled for a 3rd fill end of sep.

This may sound strange to you all but in my opinion you don't feel restriction, you sense it. Check out the link to Dr Simpson for a great article on restriction. I think the name "restriction" is just plain bad because when someone hears it they get the wrong idea....

Just my 2 cents.....

Got third fill week ago Friday haven't lost weight in about 3 weeks and I feel like I had more restriction on second fill than I have this third fill

Kerrbear I'm the same, I'm due for my third fill tomorrow and I had lost more interest in food with my first fill than my second fill. My doctor said to me try to remember the first few days after you were banded where you had no interest in food at all and no hunger, this is what we are aiming for with the fills. I do have some restriction because I've been stuck a few times but some days im more hungry than others. Those days I do tend to eat more but not that much. I am in no way eating anywhere as much as I used to in one day and I've increased my exercise and I've hit a plateaue also. Like you said its the body's way of catching up, I guess we just have to keep at it till things start moving along again and we hit the green zone.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
