Did Anyone Not Lose Until After 1St Fill?

Recommended Posts

I meet with a dic next week to talk about the lapband and I'm praying I can get it. I have 3 kids, age 30, significant health probs due to my weight and I just wanna be able to keep up with my kids. My options were Adapex or the lapband and Adapex is out due to my blood pressure. I pray I can get this surgery.

It has been 8 weeks since my surgery and i have had one fill and I have lost 15 lbs. I would think the higher your starting weight the faster it comes off. My surgeon told me that Water is major to losing fat. That fat is eliminated from the body through urine. It is hard to get so much water in and I feel like I am constantly taking Vitamins. I have a friend who had her surgery 4 years ago and she is still losing. Everyone is different and remember this is a marathon not a sprint. Good luck!!

This is what I've learned in my 22 months of being banded.

1. Everyone's journey is different. I didnt lose all that much at first. In the first 6 months I think I lost 50 lbs. and that was including the 20 I lost pre-surgery.

2. Other people do not understand. Heck it took me awhile to figure it all out. People expect you to lose weight immediately or they think the lapband is this miracle cure for overweight people. They say.. oh well, she had lap band surgery- like I didn't fight like the devil to lose this weight, even with the lapband!

2. We are all in this for the long haul. Give yourself a break, you're doing great and it will only get better!

HooRay for you!

I just got my thrid fill this week. i must say that it is definately a learning curve. I too thought that the weight would be just falling off of me. Which I don't know why I thought this because that is exactly what I didn't want to happen. That is the reason I chose the band and not a bypass.

I feel that the rate of weight that you lose is a healthier rate with the band. I do think that sometimes you sit and read these boards and get your hopes up and your expectations are very high. So, when your journey is not like everyone else's you get a little down on yourself and maybe even your band. Me being one of those people.

This third fill i feel like I am finally getting some where. I am feeling resistance more and more. I also think it really depends on if your being active or not. It your just doing diet I think the results are going to be slower than if your doing diet and exercise....of course.

Just try to stay positive and remember that it might be a long, hard road but, if you keep at it, it will be a great journey in the end.

I lost weight after my surgery because of the post-op diet...then I got my first fill...after that I GAINED weight!!

No restriction....nothing was different from what it was before I had surgery.

After the 2nd fill things began to take hold, third fill was, and still is the charm.

I am so glad I read this today!! I'm just about 7 weeks post op and I have been kind of is discouraged myself! One reason why is because people keep asking me how much I lost so far' date=' and honesty it's like they expect me to use the bathroom and crap out 50lbs! But reading this has helped me continue to look forward to my fantastic journey!! My weight loss is slow, feels like all i am keeping off is my preop weight! Grr.. But i know we can all do it!!! Best decision ever made was getting the band!! Good luck everyone!![/quote']

Lol....I feel the same way. People always ask me how much I've lost and they look at me like I should have dropped more. I had one person that knows about my band ( who hasn't seen me since I had it) who I saw just today and she actually gave me the up and down look like she was thinking, " I thought you were suppose to be loosing weight!" I've lost 21 lbs total so far including pre op dieting and I think that's pretty dang good!!!

Thanks Mama, I am a new bander as well. 3 weeks post op and was feeling the same way and really didn't know if it was normal or not, I did not lose anything in this 3rd week and was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. But I feel better now that I know I 'm right on target. I go for my 1st fill on 9/6. But I am very happy that I am already down 40 lbs since my journey began at the 1st of May:)

Fortunately I was already "warned" about this from a banded friend. She said not to be discouraged if I haven't any weight loss until after my 1st fill. p.s. She was banded over a year ago (iis at goal) and looks and feels great.

I had to have an "un-fill" within a week of surgery as I couldn"t get even Water into my body. Lost about a pound per week. Then about 6 weeks later had my first fill and started on a better weight loss pattern. About 2 pounds per week. Much happier all around !

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
