Actually Saw Myself In A Full-Length Mirror Today!!

Recommended Posts

I don't have any big mirrors in my house. I haven't in some time. They always made me feel sad and discouraged. But today I went shopping for new furniture and passed a full-length mirror.... I had to stop and go back and I just stared for the longest time. I couldn't believe how good I looked.... well compared to how i looked before. I'm at my lowest weight in over 10 years. I was so excited!!

thats wonderful and im so pleased that you got so much encouragement from that. Ive been wearing the same trousers since i was banded nearly four months ago. i was aware that they were getting baggy on me. However i hadnt tried any other trousers (slacks) on as i wanted to wait as long as possible before buying more. Plus the fact i hate window shopping and shopping in general, so i didnt have to talk myself out of it.. lol. Well, the slacks i was wearing are sized 18 aust. Today for the first time i tried on sized 14, they belonged to someone else... and they fitted me really comfy!!(actually i tried on two different pairs and they were different makes) i couldnt believe my eyes !! lol.

So , i was thrilled as well today.....its great to have these special moments come on us, isnt it?? it makes things well worth while.

judych, go buy some new pants, you will feel better about your weight loss accomplishments! I remember doing the same thing, I was wearing 18w, and then tried on 14 becasue I was going on vacation and the others were looking bad. I bought new pants and gave the others to someone they would fit! Karen

Congrats to your 1st NSV, luck2bLaura! You are doing great!

Best wishes to you both! Karen

Well done. It feels so good doesn't it. I took ages and ages to buy a new pair of jeans, literally until they were hanging off me (a friend who knows about my band shouted across the road 'oi skinny get some new jeans' ) I had such a saggy jeans bum going on that my new well fitted jeans were like a glove. Only thing now is that I already need another new pair of jeans. Always a great confidence boost though!

Get shopping!

My daughter calls all these wonderful little accomplishments (ie....fitting into new sizes, looking good in the mirror, shoes fitting better etc..) NSV's or non-scale victories! I loved this so I stole it from her LOL.

Sounds like everyone is doing great! Keep up the great work soon we will all be looking good!!!!

thats a great effort and its a great feeling to have.. Thats why i havent bought any new slacks yet...i didnt want to only wear them for a little while. As for my jeans?? they look just dreadful.. lol.. i wouldnt be seen dead in them. i did try my bathers on the other day. i hadnt worn them in 2 1/2 years. they are too loose. Im going shopping early in september... hopefully the australian spring collection will be out by then.

September - you will have probably missed the spring collection, they will have summer stuff in the shops then already!

My jeans still look dreadful. It is so hard to find ones that fit properly. I try them on in the shop and think they are fine and then when I actually wear them it's a different story - after about an hour they are all really baggy and saggy and wanting to fall off. I am forever being told that I look much better in skirts and dresses than I do in pants.

i dont know yet what i look like in a dress or a skirt. i have some beautiful flowing feminine skirts and tops to match but they are still unworn. hopefully this coming summer?? i dont reckon Ive worn skirts etc in six years?? i look awful in slacks as well . lol. but better than i did. Thats disappointing you didnt get a good wear out of your jeans. you may need to just step out over the cliff and buy smaller sizes... you never know.

A lot of the shops don't have smaller sizes and when I tried them on I thought they were OK. Smaller probably wouldn't do up around the middle - it's a problem when you have no butt and skinny legs but still have a stomach.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
