I feel for you. I've been in the Texas High Risk pool the last several years bc I was self employed & could not get ins bc of anti depressants. I paid for my whole surgery last year & have done great.

I spoke to someone about what my chances are now bc I'm no longer on so many pills. They found that no one was interested bc of my surgery. She said Aetna said maybe after 1 year. I decided to get a job with benefits even though I'm back in school. Insurance is ridiculous in our country!

Btw, I'm 51 & have NO other health issues. So far I've lost 99 lbs in almost a year. I have 20+ - to go. Good luck!

That is ridiculous, you would think that it would be easier to get insurance as theoretically you should be healthier. Surely they could just exclude the band as a pre existing"condition' and give you insurance for everything else?

We had insurance with BCBS when my husband was employed and they paid 100% for my wls. When DH got laid off, I applied to BCBS for a HIGH deductible plan and was turned down because of my lapband surgery, even though I had already been taken off my super expensive acid reflux Rx and my high blood pressure Rx. Ironic, huh?????

It was made law (2011) that pre-existing conditions cannot factor into insurance coverage. They are blowing smoke. Its illegal.

Insurance is out of control. They can raise your rates, but, they cannot deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition.

I'm really sorry for you. I have Aetna and so far no complaints. Both my daughters have B/C B/S through husbands employers. One daughter has a child with cerebral palsy and insurance sucks. She has to fight for everything.

Good Luck & don't give up, fight!

The preexisting condition regulation goes into affect I think in 2014 for adults. It is already illegal to deny CHILDREN. I was also denied because of surgery and told to check back after a year. When I did I was told I needed to loose another 10 pounds before they could cover me. I joined the high risk pool in NH. Super expensive with high deductable. No band coverage so good thing I am at restriction my doctor charges 400 for a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
