How Do You Get In 1000 Calories

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and I am still struggling to get in my calories and Protein. I log everything in my fitness pal and I am averaging about 550 calories and 50-60 grams of protein a day. Is this normal in the beginning? My next appointment with my Surgeon is on the 27th and at my one week post op appointment he said he may consider a fill, but I'm wondering if I will even need it.

If you guys need to up your Protein, have you tried Protein Shots? I like the brand that Walmart carries, and I got one online called Sunkist Protein ... each has 24g of protein and like under 150 calories in 3 oz of liquid.< /p>

Thanks for posting the diet and sample menus. I need all the help I can get in that area. I eat like 1300 cals a day minimum and I need to bring that WAY down :)

I stay at a minimum of 1200 calories on most days. Keep in mind I exercise 6 days a week (we are talking intense exercise) so I will have problems maintaining enough energy if I go too low. I track my calories to be sure I eat enough. If I'm too low I will do one of three things; protien drink, protien bar, or juiced fresh veggies/fruit.

I do have 3 meals and 2 Snacks. A snack can be something as simple as a cheese stick or a little Greek yogurt. I find I end up starving if I skip my snack time. Starving is bad for me because then I eat too fast and can get stuck. I try to avoid feeling that hungry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
