Surgery Day!

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone :) Today is my surgery day! I can't believe it! I know there is at least one other person getting banded today, but I'm not sure who. Whoever you are, good luck! :D

Anyone have any suggestions of things to bring to the hospital? I've heard Gas-X strips, and a heating pad.. Anything else?

a pillow to spling your abdomen with with when getting up or coughing. Helps with the pain/discomfort... Stuff to read/computer/phone of course. Hope all goes okay with you...

Good luck! I would recommend a small travel pillow to hold against your stomach when you move around.

Well I'm banded and very little discomfort. Not much shoulder pain (1 to 10 maybe 2 in pain)

The hiatal hernia was repaired as well and thats where the discomfort is at. Taking pain meds now.

I am due to be banded on Monday. Excited but a little nervous about this new stage of my life. As well as being obese I have fibromyalgia, constant severe pain from spinal damage in a motor vehicle accident when I was a teenager, ulcerative colitis, diabetes and sleep apnea. Hoping my doctor is correct and that losing weight will help me with some of these other issues. Wish me luck...

I believe your doctor is correct. I've heard that a big weight loss helps with fibro conditions. I know your back and legs will feel better. I was banded on Aug 6 and I feel fine and no pain or aches anymore. I believe I had it easy during recovery. The hard thing for me is keeping up with all the Water you must drink daily. I'm in Stage 1 (liquids & clear) for 2 weeks.

Best wishes and Good Luck on a successful surgery day for you.

Thanks for your good wishes! Keeping my fingers crossed. I will be so incredibly happy if I can have even one day pain free.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
