I'm on day one of my fast. I have a headache and whenever I smell food, i get jealous. I'm hoping two weeks will fly by, but I don't think that is going to happen. I'm excited that I got the approval for my surgery. I'm nervous about "what if I fail with the band as a tool for Portion Control? " Family and a couple of friends are supportive, but nobody else seems to be. I have to keep this a secret which sucks. I start school the same day I have surgery. How did other people do during the initial two week fast? Any tips?

No. I was told this is a 4 hour procedure, then I can go home. Within 24 hours I should be able to walk around.

The first couple days of the "fast" for me were difficult. However, I came to the mindset that I had to do it so it made it less of a "choice" in my mind. I do not like Protein Drinks but my nutritionist recommended the Carnation Instant Breakfast (NO sugar added - comes in a blue pkg), mixed with 2 1/2 T dry non-fat milk powder (extra protein) and 1 c. skim milk. I added ice as I prefer it really cold and it was pretty good. Once I saw the pounds going down it helped motivate me too! Good luck! Be prepared too for doing this post-surgery. ;-)

I just sipped my Protein Shake. This will be a whole day drink. I cannot drink this in one sitting. I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm doing soy milk and the powder. ugh! When did you get banded?

They gave me Optifast shakes, three flavors, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, really good. I had to take five a day. It wasn't that difficult to stick to the regimen. After the second day your body kinda goes in shock or something and you stop having those powerful cravings.

This is my tenth day pot -op and I feel really good. I walked two miles and jogged one. No pain at all.

If you don't like your shakes change them for another brand that suits you better, any GNC or nutrition store will have a nice variety.

Don't sweat the small stuff and focus on the big picture. I hope you do great!

I only had a 1-week fast. The first 2 days I had a heavy headache. I did find it hard to follow the diet but for the most part, I did it. Confession, one day I took a bite of my daughter's pizza. =-(

I was just banded yesterday and I feel great! I would definitely suggest that you do nothing but rest the day of your surgery. My surgery was at 8:00am and I was home a little past noon. I needed to sleep a lot the day of surgery. However, it is Day 2 and I am walking around with no problem! In fact, I planned to start work on Monday but I have decided that I will be fine to start tomorrow.

Everyone is different and everyone's body responds to surgeries differently.

Good Luck!

Wow. You are dedicated. I signed up to do a Tough Mudder, so I need to start training for that. I am not at 2 miles yet. I have a while to get to that. Thanks for admitting you did a little cheat. I almost wanted to today because my son was eating some chicken and it smelled so good. I went upstairs until he finished.

After about the 3rd day I felt better now I'm down to only 3 days left and I'm starving!! I just keep telling myself its all going to be worth it in the end!

I was so worried I wouldn't shrink my liver, I did not cheat. Fear if them not doing it or dying was a huge assist. ;)

As far as going to school the same day, holy smokes..... Good luck with that. lol

I messed up the very first day. But now I'm on day 3 and I'm doing good. No hunger pains, headaches, runs, or shakes. I'm surprised. The smell of fast food makes me nauseous. Never thought that would happen

I don't know how you're going to go to school on the same day as your surgery! I wasn't extremely tired or unable to walk, but I don't think you will be able to sit in your seat comfortably when you have a new foreign object in your body!!! I cheated a little on my pre op diet and it was fine!

I went to school and my teacher sent me home. I tried though. They let me Skype from home which was cool.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
