Manufacturing Bubbles What the Heck?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill yesterday. All day today I've had a strange feeling in the back of my throat... like spit pooling there (gross, I know). I keep swallowing and clearing my throat, but a few seconds later it's back. I decided to go check it out and looked in the bathroom mirror with my mouth wide open. When I open my mouth and look at the back of my throat I see a big spit bubble form and then it goes away. I close my mouth, open it again and it's back! I feel talented.

:)

Is my fill to tight? I'm thinking I'll tough it out for a few days and see what happens when I'm off the liquids. I CAN get liquids down. I AM NOT hungry - not even a little. This is just on the verge of annoying. Anybody else had this happen???

Your fill is definitely too tight. Same thing happened with my last one. I returned to doc asap and he unfilled a little. He said if I had not returned so quick it could cause more serious problem. I was obstructed, couldn't even keep Water down. Can you drink?

Thanks Sue. I was afraid that was what I would hear! Wonder what causes that? I can swallow and liquids are going down fine... it's just very strange.

Kim,

This is what my doctor calls being so tight that you can't swallow your own spit. Liquids are much thinner than saliva, so it makes sense that those go down. It may seem like a talent now, but the spit bubbles are NOT fun when they come out in the form of a PB.

However, I hate the idea of filling and unfilling, especially if you have to pay for your fills. Maybe you can try drinking hot liquids to clear out your spit and open your stoma a little.

I know this is not funny and can be serious, but you do have a way with words. I hope you get resolution quickly!!!

Hey Strawarts - I'm trying the hot liquids right now. Seems to be helping a little -- maybe. I also had some chicken noodle Soup - and I chewed up and swallowed the noodles. That went down just fine. When I stop drinking, the spit pool/bubbles comes back though.

I've got a really full week and a half ahead of me with work. I have to make a 3 hour opening in my schedule and that would be very difficult. My fills / unfills (I guess unfills?) are free for the first year.... so at least that's good.

I know this would be no fun coming up in the form of a PB - I remember your post vividly! ;-)

Hey 3Loves! Thanks --- it is kind of funny... I'm making the hubby watch the bubbles. He even went to get a flashlight. How strage are we?

So does it get so bad that you have to spit out your saliva? Or can you still swallow and you just get bubbly sometimes?

I don't have to spit at all... I just keep making bubbles. I swallow / clear my throat and it takes --- hold on, let me time it..... 15 seconds (give or take) to come back. I can wait up to 30 seconds but HAVE to swallow and clear my throat at that point. I can swallow... it just starts pooling in the back of my throat again. Ughhhhh....

Ok, this is nuts. Now you have me timing how long I can wait before I need to swallow. I think I am now getting spit bubbles by proxy.

Can we get someone with normal swallowing function to please time herself? I think we need a third opinion.

I say, as long as you can swallow and get down hot liquids, you sound safe for now. When you start back on solids, I would still drink tea or broth before you eat to loosen up. After my last fill, I don't dare try to eat without a hot drink first.

LOL! I'll give this a few days to see how it goes... I'm grossing the family out making them look at what I can do now :-). Kind of fun.

I'll keep that hot drink in mind. I'm kind of scared to even try to eat. Something about this spit thing is really wearing me out... Maybe I'll call tomorrow over to the fill clinic and just see what they have to say. I feel kind of the same way that if I can get stuff down (like the noodles), then I'm probably ok. Just a very strange phenomenon.

Well hopefully the swallowing will be an automatic thing.... just in case though, I'll take hubbie's pillow so I don't drool all over mine. ;-)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
