Did Your Surgeon Ask You To Lose Weight Before Surgery And You Didn't?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon asked me to lose 10 lbs before surgery, my surgery isn't until early Sept. but I'm afraid I can't lose the 10 lbs before then.

Has anyone experienced this and what happened?

Thanks!

Personally I think 10 pounds is not bad. I had to loose 35! And yes I did loose it in fact I lost 50.

I had to lose almost 35 pounds and thought it was going to be impossible. I ended up losing almost 50 by the time I had surgery!

They wanted me to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I lost all 10 by day 6. They'll probably give you a mostly or completely liquid diet to follow and as long as you stick to it, you should have no problem losing that weight.

You can drop 10-15 lbs in two weeks if you go on a strict low carb diet.

I had to 6 additional pounds to loose before my pre op surgery appointment. I found out about this when I returned home from a cruise...and had 3 weeks to get below the required weight.

I went on a low carb, high lean Protein diet, and began walking 4 miles a day. At the end of the 3 weeks, I had lost 12 pounds. The surgeon's office was blunt and to the point; if I was not below their target number for my weight, I would have to have my surgery rescheduled. After over a year of delays, there was no way I was going to let that happen.

It's rather amazing what we can accomplish when we have defined goals and the motivation to be successful!

Best wishes...you can do this!

I did a little panic eating before surgery and gained weight! My surgeon threatened not to do the surgery unless I lost the weight I gained AND the weight I was supposed to lose. Once I started the liquid diet the weight came off fast. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
