How Long Before Port Is Healed

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery June 29 and can still feel the port under my skin. Some days it is less noticeable. Any idea how long it takes to heal, or will my port always feel like that? Thanks

When you say feel, do you mean painfully or you are aware it is there?

No pain, just aware it is there. The other incisions healed perfectly. I'm guessing it takes time for swelling to go down under the skin?

Mine seemed to go away within the first few weeks. I know some people can feel the port more than others. Have you been exercising? Maybe your abdominal wall is sore and you are feeling everything a wee bit more?

Just started exercising today, nothing strenuous. Maybe it is just taking its time to heal, I guess if it's not sore, then I should be ok!! Thanks so much for the replies!! I appreciate it!

Im 3 yrs post op. My port could be felt with some prodding when I weighed 250. Now, it looks like an alien. U can totally see it protruding.

Good luck

Your port doesn't need to heal. It is a part of the overall band that will always be there. I could feel mine from day one, although it is somewhat more prominent now!

My incsision is still healing and I was banded on June 5th. The other day the last stitch finally came to the surface, so maybe it will finally heal now. I've been cleaning it and putting neosporin on it all the time, but that one little spot just would not heal. But I can feel my port if I press in, and sometimes when I sit down I can feel my pants press into it, but I just re-adjust my waistband and it's better.

I'm hoping mine goes down a little because its right where the underwire to my bra is. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
