Sleep Study For No Reason?

Recommended Posts

Hello bandsters. This week I have my Psych appt and my sleep study. Even though I have a BMI of 38 plus 3+ Comorbids the insurance woman at my DR. said it would be better to have a sleep study in order for the ins to be approved. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have absolutely no snoring or sleep disturbance.

My Surgeon required it for all the patients. I didn't think I had any issues and found out I had a mild issue. It is a pain in the butt, but do it and get it over with.

They will have immediate results, so it is not going to hold you up.

I also had to have it done. My surgeon requires it for all patients. I never had a problem more than once in a while snoring and the outcome of the study was that I do snore, more than I thought, but no sleep apnea.

This didnt hold up my surgery either.

Wishing you the best!

It was a requirement for my surgeon because people with apnea can have a hard time with general anasthesia and not just because of insurance.

I got out of mine he required it but insurance wouldnt cover sleep study unless I ended up having apnea n I knew I didnt have it. I talked my dr. out of it and I am glad I did.

I had one and now have a CPAP machine. While I am upset to have this, I know more than ever that I have to get this done as I do not want this to be a permanent condition.

My dr. Requested the same fore me. I said the same thing you did, that I don't snore or anything. But to my surprise I have sleep apnea and didn't even know it. For your own safety it's better that the surgeon knows this going into surgery. I had a hard time getting to sleep in a different bed but my family dr. Gave me ambien so I could sleep long enough for the study. I left the hospital at 4 in the morning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
