Please help - Deodorants / Antiperspirants Quetion

Recommended Posts

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hi All,

I was not sure who to ask this question of, but I know my fellow bandsters will give me good advise.

I am down now by 40 1lbs and went out and purchased all new clothes for work. Within the last month, however, I notice I have been having a under-arm smell. I am using Secret, but it does not seem to be strong enough. My main problem, is that the smell stays on my nice new clothing, and dry-cleaning does not get it out.

I therefore have two questions.

1. Can someone recommend a really good Deodorants / Antiperspirants (Super Strength)

2. How do I get the smell out of my dry-cleanable clothes, when dry-cleaning is not doing it and I can't wash them.

Any help is appreciated...

well, the odure (in my cheesiest French accent) is caused by bacteria, and to some extent your diet.

I know that if I'm having weird odures I look at my food journal too see if there is a culpret there. For my body, I use Burt's Bee's rose Water astringent. It has a low alcholoh content, but it is rose sented and it will kill the bacteria on my skin. After about a week no more odure.

For your clothes, I would test some fabreeze and see if that will work.

I use the Degree ultra clear solid. It works very good for me. I live in South Texas where it is HOT and with the coastal breeze we also have high humidity. It is the best deodorant I have used, but I think our body chemistry is all different so you might just have to try several different kinds to see what works best for you. P.s. it also smells great!

Could be hormones. Hormones are stored in fat cells and as you lose weight the hormones are released causing body odor, pimples, mood swings, etc.

I use Dry Idea unscented and I think I smell purty. :)

I also think the suggestion for Fabreeze is a great idea.

I have this problem now and I am not banded. I use Secret but I have to wash and reapply a couple times a day. I may try some of the ones y'all have suggested and see if one of those helps. I also sweat up under my boobs and I apply deodorant there too...works pretty good. I use alot of Shower to Shower powder, lol.

What a strange after affect of being banded!!!! LOL I have used Mitchum solid for woman since my mom gave it to me in puberty.

I live in South Florida and have never had a problem. My DH always says how nice I smell. Lately, I seem to smell "off". I could't figure it out.... who would have thought it is the weightloss!!!

I use arm and hammer, by god, if it can make my ice stay odor free, then surely it can keep my underarm odor free!!

Karen,

There was a thread about a year ago with this exact problem... re: problems with underarm arm odor after WLS.

Seems like this problem was restricted to those that only used Secret.

Strange, huh?

After they switched D.O.'s, everything was fine!

I use Dove - and have for years. No problems yet!

I haven't had a problem, yet (it's still early). My husband however sweats CONSTANTLY. He tried Certain Dry(Dri?) last week and has been mostly dry all the time. He doesn't smell bad though. Maybe Paula has something and you should switch from Secret.

This is really weird, but after years and years of wearing secret after banding I developed hives in the underarm area and it was so severe it spread to my breasts and it was so uncomfortable and itchy... at the time we were on vacation and I went to see a doctor, he thought it was a food allergy and restricted me from certain foods. It was not getting any better because of course every time I would shower I would apply more, well I finally stopped because the hives were so bad and slowly they started clearing up. Well I don't exactly remember how but I forgot to put some deodorant on and all we had in the car was hubbys so I used his and his worked great and it was unscented so I continued to use that while on vacation. Well when we got back I went back to secret and again broke out in the hives and I've since tried others and every deodorant I try breaks me out... don't know why but it does.. So this girly girl only wears gillette gel men's deodorant, it is the only thing that works for me and I refuse to go without. So weird.

You know........just in the last month or so I noticed the same thing. I use secret, too. Maybe the "secret" of Secret is that after a while it just don't work anymore. I've worn it for years and never had a problem, but just lately---pppeeee yyyeeewwww.

I'm convinced. I'm switching. Pah..Strong enough for a man but made for a woman... bulls**t! :speechles

I use Dove. I have for years and I am proud to say it still works. My sister uses addidas for women cause she had a problem with under arm odor and had to switch deodorants. Hmmm.... She also used to use secret. I wonder if it is a "secret" conspiracy:spy:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
