Stretched Pouch

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I went for a fill last thursday bcuz I was eating wayyy to much, the Dr started asking me questions bout how I had been feeling n I told her dat I was having minor acid reflux specially at nite. She told me dat I have possibly stretched my pouch, so she took all da liquid out n told me to b on liquids for 2 weeks. Has anyone gone thru this?? And does being on liquids really help the pouch go bak to normal? And what kinds of liquids did u take??

It can help the pouch shrink, but not always, it greatly depends on much it's already stretched.

As for liquids, your best bet is stick to low sugar and low sodium.

Once you're back on solid foods again, be sure to eat no more than 1 cup of food per meal. If you're still hungry, talk to your doctor about needing a fill, but if you want to avoid stretching the pouch again definitely stick to band sized portions regardless of hunger.

Best wishes

I understand money is an issue, but you need the barium swallow. Your symptoms could be from a slip as easily as from a stretched pouch, and either way, you have to know what you're dealing with for the sake of your health.

That is my worst fear stretching my pouch. I admit I don't always measure my food, but I stop when Im full. Sometimes Im too full I can't even drink Water.

I have to stick to measuring I really don't want to strech my pouch.

I would be more concerned about being too tight, or having a slip, with the symptoms you mentioned.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
