What Protein Supplement Do You Use?

Recommended Posts

I love the Unjury...chocolate and vanilla. My husband still prefers Muscle Milk and can get 72 grams of Protein in 1 shake. Higher in calories,,,but has worked well for him.

Your body can only use about 25 grams at a time. The rest is wasted.

I have a hard time with chaulky milky shake like Protein shakes/drinks. So, I found a 'clear' Protein Drink in grape and fruit punch I really enjoy called Protein Blitz. Its expensive, but if it doesn't make me sick its worth it. Now, I also have Unjury and Now 'unflavored' protein powders that I mix in my foods such as Soups, Jello, etc...

What's wrong with drinking the Atkins shakes frequently? I really like them.

Given that they all taste chalky to me - none.

And given that I'm now wheat free, gluten free, lactose free, soy free and anything ending in "ol" free, that pretty much rules out ANY Protein shake on the market here, lol.

That's not helpful, really, lol. I do however manage to get all the Protein I need with food.

I really like the EAS carbadvantedge. Rich dark chocolate and blend it with ice for a cool treat. 17 grams of carbs and about 110 calories.

Anyone have any suggestions on an unflavored brand to mix into food? I went into GNC and they only had 2 options. One was Soy which supposedly can mess with your estrogen levels so I'm not even trying that one and the other one was not a whey isolate. I also found out that Optimum Nutrition says whey Isolate, but only has a little bit of the isolates so they are permitted to put this on their label, unfortunateli as I just put in a big order for this.

I purchased this from Amazon, (now sports, unflavored) 51waorXwpgL.jpg it mixes very well up. I also purchased powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Unflavored too!

I just had a fill last week and my doctor said no more Protein Bars and shakes. Real food only! Does anyone know why I can't have them?

I use Wheybolic Extreme (half measure) 60 from GNC. Most of the ready made shakes are lacking in nutritional value' date=' so it is only in the rare instances for convenience that I use the Atkins shakes.

As you look for a product you like, look for the ingredient of "whey isolate protein". That's the best Protein nutrition choice for bariatric patients. [/quote']

So Atkins isn't considered a top choice?

I use muscle milk or light muscle milk. I can only drink the rtd ones though as I hate ALL Protein powders. I drink one daily

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
