Countdown Begins/first Day Of Protein Diet

Recommended Posts

Today, July 13th, is the first day of my pre-op liquid Protein diet. Made it through today with no problem. Well, maybe one little problem. I was'nt able to finish all the Protein that I was supposed to consume today.

I had 4 Protein drinks, which used up two pouches of the protein, but I still have one pouch left. I'll try something a bit different tomorrow and try to get it all in.

My Dr. prescribed a medical grade protein that has all of the nutrients and Vitamins that you need on a daily basis, plus, if you drink it all you get 107gr. of protein. Seems like a lot, eh? The only solid food that I had today was 1 very small zucchini, 4 mushrooms, and 6 asparagus spears. I'm only allowed very low glycemic veggies, plain, and the Protein Drink. Oh, and I can mix a bit of Crystal Light into the protein to flavor. Boy am I glad that I can do that, because it's nasty on its own. Any way, today is almost over and I made it through and do not feel hungry.

I'm thinking I will be able to get through these next two weeks and my liver will be in good shape for my July 27th surgery. Yesterday evening I was really doubting myself if I would be able to stick with this two week diet. My friend was here and I was whining to her and she did such a good thing. She gave me a little bit of tough love and it straightened me out. She reminded me how important it is to get my liver into shape before surgery. She asked me if I wanted to be split wide open so that my Dr. would be able to repair my bleeding liver, and that is what could happen if I can't be honest about this process. She said I have no business going for surgery if I can't follow this two week plan. I knew she was right and decided right then and there to commit onehundred percent to making this work for me. There really is no plan B if I fail at this, I wont let that happen. And thank God for my wonderful friends who are supporting me in all of this. My husband is cold and hot about the whole thing and deep down I don't believe that he thinks I will lose the weight. But, saying that he did go out and get me all the veggies that I had on my list and he has agreed to do the shopping so that I don't buy anything crazy. It's just the two of us now and he's never been a snacker. One of the lucky ones who eat to live, not live to eat. We grilled out together and he cooked his own meat and potatoe while I did my veggies on the grill. They were tasty.

Well, tomorrow is day two and I'm hoping it goes as well as today.

G'night all.

If you hate the Liquid Protein drink that much why don't you ask if you can use a different product? I did the liquid diet for two weeks prior to my surgery and was not allowed ANY veggies or anything. It was 6 slim fasts a day and Clear Liquids for two weeks. I didn't cheat and got through the two weeks with a shining example of a liver! The first few days are the roughest when your body is detoxing. After that it is easier and you are able to get through the day much easier and I found most of the cravings went away. You will probably notice that your body functions go on overdrive like your system is purging itself and you might even break out here or there as the body releases toxins. It is all common, good luck with your pre op and the surgery!

DDRobins: I love your attitude. You have a wonderful friend. Give her a hug. One day at a time and soon the surgery date will be here. hugs. Ilene

My dietician highly reccommended Slimfast High-Protein. My husband bought me a Magic Bullet blender for Mother's Day and I've been making great use out of it! I'm allowed 4 drinks a day and I mix it with 1 cup of skim milk (per directions) and then add one cup of ice and blend it up. Sometimes I'll throw some cold press coffee (no calories!) in with the chocolate or some cinnamon with the vanilla. They're actually pretty good and are wonderful on these super hot July days we've had here in Southern Minnesota! I'm not allowed anything else except non-caloric liquid so it's getting rather boring, but at least it's palatable!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
