So I am 2 Weeks and 1 day post OP, and I have not lost a single pound for 4 days. I'm not cheating at all, actually I only ate but 300 calories yesterday because of the feeling of lump in my throat. This extreme to how I used to eat so wouldn't you think I would lose weight even if I wasn't banded???? Idk, has anyone experienced this? and any suggestions to why no weight loss??? Thanks in advance.

Don't have a great answer for you. I did a 500 cal diet for 6 days preop and lost nothing! Keep in mind I was also doing an hour of moderate cardio (everyday); and I weighed over 300 pounds. Puts the whole calories in calories out on it's head! I was on HMR 500; medical liquid diet.

I would make sure to get in your Water intake. Are you doing any exercise?

This is a time for healing and not losing weight. You should not be worrying about weight loss for another 4 weeks.

In the beginning 6 weeks, most of your weight loss will be loss of fluids and not fat loss. Oh, you may lose 4 lbs of fat if you diet heavily but don't expect a lot. Your weight will yo-yo up and down by 1-5 lbs every day depending on your food choices, medications and workout routines.

You will have periods where you lose no weight for weeks on end and then suddenly you will lose 3 lbs. 4 days is nothing. This is a marathon not a 100 yd dash. Expect to lose 2-6 lbs a month once you get restriction.

You need to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to lose 1 single lb. Do the math and you'll see that 2 lbs per week is going to be very difficult but possible. Good luck and follow your doctors orders.

Might i as why you are only eating 300 cal. a day? Just like with any other diet, you are throwing your self into "starvation" mode.... your body is storing. I found when i ate a more "balanced" meal...and had my lite Snacks... i lost better then the days i ate less cals. So maybe eat more Protein and see how that works. Log in what you eat this way you will have it in writing what worked and what didn't.

don't beat your self up over this.... my weight loss was slow, i was worried at first that i had failed again.... but then i started exercising and i started losing inches and building muscle..... Have you started exercising? If not, start slow with walking and or a class like Zumba. That's what i did, then i worked up to the elliptical (aka the devil) and then weights.... Oh.... and stop weighing your self everyday...

Good luck and think positive.

If you eat too few calories you can stop losing too. I am around 100 calories a day and lose a pound every 1-4 days. I am about a month post op. I am happy with that. I have heard 1-2 lbs a week is great! My dr says that our only goal should be to keep the weight off. Don't stress too much about lbs. your clothes will start getting too big and you will be happy!

If you are like most of us you have dieted many times before. You must remember your body is like a computer and goes into a "survival mode" and metabolism slows down to preserve your vital organs.

It is a defense mechanism and you will more than make up for lost time when your system realizes this is a permanent thing.

Hang in there-we do lose it.

I kept remembering my Dr. saying everytime I got on the scales~"say goodbye to this number-you won t see it here again" and He was right.

i m trying to change my ticker-i m 10# under goal.!

100 calories a day? That sounds a little dangerous? Did you mean 1,000 calories a day? 100 would be like one large apple a day?

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Also I only did the 300 calories thing one day, due to an awful feeling of a lump in my throat. I have same feeling today after a quarter of my Protein shake and it last all day. I tried hot tea, and Soup. No relief. Anyone know what this is and what takes it away ??? Thank you

It sounds like you have a piece of food stuck in the opening or inflammation. Call your doctor and tell them what is going on. They may have you come in and take the Fluid out to flush the food and then put the Fluid back in. Good luck, I know the feeling and it is no fun.

Sorry don't know why but I do know it happens.try not to worry about it for the next couple if weeks just concentrate on healing .but I can say that 300 cal is way too little and ur body may be in starvation mode where it doesn't burn but holds the fat when it thinks it's starving.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
