Gained Weight And Depressed!

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery 1 week and a day ago ... Been on a liquid diet since and I lost 2 kilos at the start but weighed myself today and gained it all back. I am craving food but fighting it all! Am soo depressed! Why am I gaining weight? What shall I do? Has this happened to anyone else? :(

I believe it is becausr you've not had your first fill and there is no restriction and the liquid diet weight loss is only temporary, not really for weight loss but to shrink the liver for surgery.

Remember when Oprah did the Medifast diet, as soon as she began solids all the weight came right back. The weight should start coming off once you actually get your restriction. I know it's hard but be patient, it will come off.

Your in banster hell..the time between surgery and when you start getting fills...the first 6 weeks is about healing...now a month on liquids seems a bit extreme to me..but u should follow your doctors orders..once u start regular foods u may gain weight to..being on liquids for that long your body will be in shock when u start real food and will hold on to everything you eat...hang in there hun it will get better.

All these liquids and soft foods are not a correct reflection of what life is like with the band. Do not expect to lose any weight for the first 6 weeks (those were my surgeon's words). You are healing, and no doubt have lots of swelling and bloating. I gained 8 lbs right after my surgery despite following my doctors orders to the letter. Don't get down on yourself before you've even started the process. Soon you will begin learning to eat with your band and exercising regularly. That's when the weight will begin to come off.

Just because you weigh heavy on one particular day does NOT mean you've GAINED weight. Our weight fluctuates from day to day depending on many things. Get on the scale i. a few days and I'm sure you'll weigh less. Keep your chin up!

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing, not losing. Until you are past the post op diet and onto to regular foods you may as well put away your scale. Once you're healed and onto regular food again, then you can start worrying about losing weight.

For now, just stick to your post op diet phases and try to make the best food choices possible.

This is so great to read! I decided to put my scale away because seeing no change or a gain in my weight during the liquid phase sucks!! Nice to see other people are experiencing this!

It could be Fluid retention, im nine days post op and just moving onto mushies, I know it's a time for healing but I am still losing weight. We are all individuals and our bodies respond differently. Keep doing what your surgeon has asked you to do. Like someone else said in a few days you'll probably find that weight gain has disappeared. Unless you are eating like before it can't be fat gain, it's Fluid. I wish you well on your journey. Also that time if the month plays havoc on the scales if you're female.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
