So I am almost 3 months post op, and down about 10 pounds since surgery. I'm eating well (95% of the time) and getting at least 80 grams of Protein everyday.

2 days ago, I noticed my hair has started falling out in almost clumps! I just finished my period, and I wonder if hormones play a part in this as well. I already have thin hair, and I don't want it to get worse! Any tips?

I did get my hair cut and dyed a few weeks ago as well, but that hasn't ever caused an issue before.

Hi. I am 2.5 years post op banding (80#). I too had thin hair to begin with and Hair loss was my biggest worry. The couple things I did was start Biotin before surgery and I also bought a Shampoo, wish I could remember the name of it, from my hair salon for hair loss. It wasn't like what men use that you have to use the rest of your life, this was something like Nexus or something that helps with thinning hair. i came through without a lot of loss, just a bit here and there. But i was diligent in using the shampoo/conditioner and Biotin daily until about 1 year post op I stopped the shampoo. I still take the Biotin (5000 mcg 2xday) for my nails and hair. I believe in the stuff. Others may be able to help you with some other suggestions. Good Luck.

3 months post surgery My hair started to fall out like crazy. It lasted a couple of months and then quit and has come completely back. I have super thick hair tho... so nobody really noticed. But it drove me crazy!

My dr. told me that usually after a surgery people will loose their hair. (?)

Take Biotin pills. I am not banded yet but my hair is also stringy straight thin. before I took the Biotin I was shedding all over the house. Not in clumps, but I could sweep my hair in a little ball off from the floor. I started taking Biotin in March of this year and noticed a difference already. Less shedding, I did cut about 7 inches off my hair and had it cut in 3 layers to make it look full. It has grown back since I had my cut in March. I had very long hair almost down to the middle of my back. I don't think my head could handle the pulling anymore. The longer our hair is it does pull on the scalp.

Also, remember it is temporary and don't stress about it, it will only make it worse the stress.

PS: I am not sure what hair dye product you use, but I use Natural Hair Instincts, have for about 5 years now. I usually do touch ups on my greys around my ears. Its a rinse and washes out about 30 shampoos. It gives my hair a nice shiny healthy look without drying up my hair. Oh, shampooing frequently a lot is not good. Believe it or not we need the natural oils in our hair to keep our scalp healthy. If you swim in chlorine Water make sure you use a Shampoo and conditioner specifically for that.

Hope that was helpful :)

I only get salon dye jobs now. I'm not co-ordinated enough to do it myself ;)

Thanks for the info on Biotin. I'll look for it. Are you guys getting it at a pharmacy, or at a specialty foods store?

More than likely the hairloss is due to 2 things. The anethesia that is typically used has as its side effect.....hairloss. the second reason has to do with Protein. I agree with the other posters that Hilton will be helpful.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
