Hypothyroid, Metabolic Syndrome Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I have had extreme problems with weight loss! It takes FOREVER for me to get the scales to budge. After 3 weeks I normally get discouraged and give up. Is the Lap-Band going to be the right thing for me? I admit I am impatient, but after going to Curves and playing by the rules for an entire month and not seeing the scales move. I don't think I would say patience was the problem. Any thoughts? Or has anyone on here had the same hypothyroid and metabolic syndrome problem and had the Lap Band?

Hi! I'm in the same boat, only I'm really patient and I still don't lose weight. I haven't had mine done yet, but I'm meeting with the surgeon Monday for my initial consult because I'm tired of starving to lose 3 lbs in 3 months and then gaining it back as soon as I decide to eat one normal meal. I did read that there have been quite a few studies that have shown that Lap Band has cured Metabolic Syndrome :)

I HAD metabolic syndrome. 4 months post op my bloodwork came back perfect and was removed from all my meds. It just disappeared!! Weight just melted off and all my medical issues 1 by 1 disappeared too. Lap band saved my life and helped me get over that hurdle that syndrome X'ers have. Best tool ever!!

That is wonderful! I'll probably be able to get off my bp meds as well!! How much did you lose? How long did it take? Thank you for responding!!

I was banded Oct 2010 with a starting weight 297. By Feb 2011 I think at that time I was about 245-250. I came off my bp meds at the same time along with supplements my Dr had me on for swelling, high homocystine levels and cholesterol. That was 4 months time. I did take Iron supps for a while and was off of those by summer. However, I am 8 months pregnant now and back on Iron but 1/2 of all pregnant women are anemic due to additional blood for the baby so Im not worried at all. Also, I have only gained 12 lbs in 32 weeks so it has been a tremendous help. I truly believe that the band is the only thing that has helped me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
