5Th Day Of Liquids Pre-Surgery

Recommended Posts

This is my first time on a website like this and I am excited to meet new friends who are going thru what I am! Today is my 5th day of liquids pre-surgery and I have researched several different meanings of the pre "liquid diet"... my doctor is Dr. Eric Pham and i am scheduled for surgery on July 19th, 2012. I am extremely excited to have my surgery and am committed to do whatever it takes to be successful with the Lap-Band. How I understood the "liquid diet" was to have only Protein Shakes, Water, Vitamin water, clear broth, liquid yogurt and sugar free Jello. I have mostly stuck to chocolate Protein shakes, lots and lots of water and have added (4) multi-vitamins and (2) potassium and (1) Iron to my diet, as well as Emergency 1000 and Zipfizz which are extra sources of additional Vitamins in powder form (easier to add to my water/vitamin water).

Can one of you please respond and let me know how you did on your 2-week "pre-surgery" liquid diet? Can you please give me some pointers as to what you did and how much weight you lost pre-surgery?

Thanks so much!!

I have seen the pre-op diet vary widely from doctor to doctor. My doctor's pre-op diet is 2 Protein shakes a day (powder, Water, fruit if you want, sugar free pudding if you want). Then a meal of lean meat and veggies for dinner.

I start it on Thursday. My surgery date is July 19.

We have the same surgery date... so cool!! Congratulations! Are you as excited as I am? The only upcoming stuggle I am facing is the 4th of July holiday. I usually go to a party every year and I think I'm going to pass this year, since I am only allowed liquids.< /p>

It does vary from surgeon to surgeon. I am to do ONE Protein Drink in place of ONE meal, then I can eat two meals and a snack making sure I don't go over 1200 calories daily. My surgery is scheduled for July 25th.

I have to start on Thursday, July 05. It's really head in my head lol because I'm constantly thinking about what I CANNOT have. I made the mistake of going to costco for the first time in years and I was overwhelmed by all the good food I can't have for a long time. I'm over it but I can't wait until I'm banded. Good luck I pray you have a smooth recovery and a new life full of joy and all things wonderful!

welcome!

i was banded july 2... so i'm still on post op liquids ;) it seems each dr is different as far as pre and post op diets. mine was completely liquids 2 weeks post op. i had water, shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popcicles, crystal light, broth and my vitamins. this diet is important because it will shrink your liver and it will be better for the surgeon and for you!

personally, it also helped for my post op liquid 2 weeks... because i was already used to the liquid diet. during my first week of the liquid diet, was the hardest. day 4 i cried and cried! it was hard seeing others eat whatever they wanted and i had to sip on broth! BUT... if i could remain faithful, so can you! during this time, i was also able to realize my horrible addiction to food. i would go through moments where i felt anxious because i couldn't eat something i wanted and felt as it only food would calm me down. but, with God's grace, i remained faithful to the liquid diet. i have just 3 more days of it and i'm on to soft foods!

as for weightloss... during those two weeks, i lost about 10 pounds and since surgery (about a week and half) i've lost about 12. BUT dont look at the numbers! just stay on track!

liquid diet has its moments when you feel like you just want to throw in the towel... but thats normal. just come on here for encouragement... that really helped me!!! we have all been through it and will be there to support you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
