You Don't Need Surgery...

Recommended Posts

I was 100lbs overweight. I lost 23 lbs during pre-op diet. That still put me 75 lbs overweight. I di not tell everyone that I was having lapband surgery. I just told some I was having in/out surgery. It is pretty comon in my age group to get some kind of in/out surgery and do a liquid diet beforehand. After I lost a lot of my weight, then I mentioned that I had surgery, everyone was amazed that I did so well. I am now on the way to my 3 year bandiversary, and still struggle at times, but I have NEVER met goal before and I had been on a lot of diets to try do so. Best wishes!!Karen

Prior to my consul I had lost 50 pounds. From consult to surgery I lost another 50. I had a sister ask me did I think I needed surgery and I told her absolutely. I know that I will gain it back without help. I lost a lot of weight at 13 and about a hundred at 18 and then at 30. I always came back so I need some help. If someone's doctor told them without a pace maker they would die; no one would tell them to just suck it up and pray themselves well.

Just thought of something else to add. When I went for my seminar, tehy giv eyou a questionare/ Why do you think you need lapband? Most of us can and have lost weight. I get bored with it and that is why I (and most others) gain it back. Getting bored was the number 1 answer. After 40 lbs with WW, I got bored. Have you tried liquid proein diet? I lsot a lot of weight, not sure how much, but after you stop the diet, weight gain starts because it is not normal way to "eat". My stomach was so sensitive, I ate dry cheerois between meals. Best wishes. Karen

I lost 11lbs pre-op on the Sugar Busters Diet. I know in my heart and mind that if I had not had lap band surgery, I would have gained it back and then some. One of the posters said before the band they were never full. Now, I'm full....and happy!!!

My answer is to that is, I have lost 70 pounds three times on my own. However it only took me a month to put it all back on, plus an additional 20%. Everyone knows that i have had the surgery. I have a public blog about journey that connects to my Facebook. I am PROUD to be willingly to be banded, not ashamed. I am more ashamed when people think that I am not trying and they don't understand my diesease (PCOS).

i have pcos too and its horrible :0( i have been seriously thinking about getting banded but still weighing my options, no pun intended lmao.. how has it helped with your symptoms, if you dont mind me asking.. im still trying to decide if its right for me.. i called my gyno and asked him his opinnion, and i really didnt get one.. he just told me that i would have to wait another 18 months or so to try and get pregnant.. ive heard other people say within a few months, bc of the rapid drop in weight, they conceived faster then that..

I have loste tons of weight half of my life. I was also very close to my goal at one time even. Now, with my right hip replaced and my left on its way out, I need help. I think part of it honestly was denial that I could do this on my own and I really believed that I could. I am much older and I can barely move with my severe arthritis. I need the help and I do believe this is my last shot at living a healthier lifestyle.

Only a few people know of my surgery and I plan on keeping it that way. When the time comes and the weight loss is noticible and asked about it. I will kindly just say "thanks, I am watching"... and keep it moving :)

I am just starting the process of looking into the lap band surgery but I am not telling anybody. I will eventually tell my parents when I am sure my insurance will cover it. I haven't even told my girlfriend I even went to the Doctor to discuss it and I have no intention of telling her. After my wife left me after losing her weight from gastric bypass I was determined to lose my weight on my own but I failed and gained it all back and more. I think my parents would try to talk me out of it and I know my girlfriend would tell me I'm crazy to spend money on weight loss surgery. This is a personal decision and most people don't understand it. Thats why I'm on here for encouragement and support.

I decided to get the band to deal with maintenance issues and not strictly in order to lose weight. I can lose weight- I've done it hundreds of times. I have not been able to keep it off, though, and I liked the idea of physical restriction to help me not return to bad old habits as soon as I reached my goal.

So people think you're crazy. Big deal. I think they're pretty presumptuous to try and make decisions for someone who has done her research and made an informed decision, especially since they are making those decisions based on gut reaction and not research. Poo on 'em.

I was banded a week ago. I only told my husband and bff. I didn't have to do a preop diet and I only made the cut by a BMI of 34. But like many of you I have lost and regained over and over. Also as for not telling people? I didn't want to be judged or told that "you have done it before just do it again"! Errr I called in sick on Tuesday and went to work on Friday. (must have been the flu) haha! I needed this. I'm still sore at the port, but otherwise doing better then expected. I think of this as a second chance and I am going to do my part while the band does its part! I still call it "IT" still haven't come up with a name for my new friend! Lol

To be honest losing weight is the easiest part, keeping the weight off and maintaining the weight loss is the harder part ... this is a medical proceedure for a medical problem why would u not have it done just because u lose a little bit of weight , i lost nearly 40lbs pre-op i still needed help .. weight loss gets harder as u lose weight not easier :)

My thoughts exactly .. keep positive and dont let aanyone put uou off doing whats right for you !

I didn't have a pre-op diet plan.

I've been quite open. The UPS guy came to the door a couple of weeks after surgery. I raised my shirt and said, Hey, look what I did.

Then my little inside voice said, you're a moron Dan. So, I've kindof backed off the overtly openess I had the first 30 days.

tmf

LOL! That reminds me of the famous time President Johnson lifted his golf shirt to show a reporter his incision from gall bladder surgery! Big to-do over that one!

I let everybody know.I've several obese friends and family members that haven't been real supportive .My wifes aunt has made snide remarks to everybody that will listen. We found out she was set to have the surgery but changed her mind durning the first day of her pre-op diet. Now, she is planning on gastric bypass..lol You would think others fighting obesity would be the most supportive

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
