Post Surgery Recuperation

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this site. Signed up yesterday which was my first day of pre-op diet. Surgery is 6/26. While I am mostly excited about having the procedure done, I am somewhat anxious over all the talk I've been reading about post op complications and/ or how long recuperation seems to be taking for people. So I am just curious, is there anyone out there recently banded who hasn't had recuperation issues??? I mean I can see a couple of days where you don't feel good after it's first done, but I've seen posts talking about "weeks" after banding and they still can't sleep, shoulder pain, and unable to swallow or keep liquid down. That worries ME!!! Why is it that people are having trouble swallowing after banding? My dr. said I shouldn't even notice the band (unless I over eat or eat wrong (sticky) foods). Anyway if you experienced a fairly quick and tolerable recovery after banding, PLEASE SHARE! Thnx!

Although my surgery was in 2005, I remember it well. I had no pain after the surgery not even in the hospital. If I hadn't seen the small incisions I would have thought nothing was done. I was tired for a few days. No shoulder pain, I even slept on my stomach when I got home. As far as sleep, I think the anesthetic messed me up a little bit, but it was no big deal. No problem with liquids at all, no problems swallowing. It was the easiest surgery I ever had and the quickest recovery. Just take it one day at a time. Everyone is different. Good luck.

Fantasy. You are so darn lucky. You never JD it could be as easy as it was for Fantasy. But good things don't come easy. From these forums, atleast I don't feel alone, otherwise I think I would panic about everything.

It wasnt too bad for me. I spent 1 night in hospital then went home. First day home I was uncomfortable, but totally manageable with pain meds, gas x and walking. The gas can be uncomfortable, but I never had the crazy shoulder pain that some get. The port area was sore for me, but not terrible-- it felt like I did 100 sit ups. Good luck.

I felt a bit nauseous for the first few days but that was resolved once I was allowed to eat Soup. I think too much sweet stuff combined with the anaesthetic was my problem. I had minimal pain which was sorted out with the meds my Dr prescribed, didn't have gas, had no issues drinking etc.

I thought it was a fairly easy surgery but then I could say the same about my hysterectomy I had last year, my Dr was amazed at how quickly I was jumping in and out of bed, so maybe I just recover quickly.

Hi, I had my lb put in 6/13/2012, I went in and came home the same day, I also had Hiatel hernia that was fixed...over all I feel better as the days go by....first day I was a bit scared to drink, but I did good taking it easy and drinking slowly...2nd day I was told to use cabbage leaves around my body, not on the incisions but around it and a body wrap belt to hold up my tummy and take it easy...well I haven't had major issues with gas pains at all...I just notice I had like a pain that felt like fire to the skin near my navel area, but I took my liquid pain meds and it subsided :) I tried not to take too much meds afterwards...but I feel better day after day. google cabbage remedies and you will find out what its about...it really works for the pain, bloating...just change the leaves when they get soggy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
