So How Honest Were You....

Recommended Posts

Did you tell everyone that you were having surgery and what it was for?

My surgery is scheduled for June 28th. I haven't told very many people yet, but I'm wondering about what I should say when I get back to work after a week off. On one hand, I can see telling people so they can watch and hopefully encourage if they know what you're going through. On the other hand, the judging, oh the judging! So for those of you out there who have been through it, do you wish you had told more people or fewer?

I'm excited, but starting to get nervous!

I told my job and some family I was having surgery on my foot LOL> BUT soooo glad I did. Its a slow proces and even the one cousin I told who thankfully hasnt told anybody else (that I know of!!!) looks me up and down every time she sees me and says stuff like "you didnt lose that much weight yet". Its crazy but weight issues bring out alot in people. Id keep it to myself if I were you. Peaople try to sabotage and say negative things. And besides at the end of the day its yur body and yu have to do the work !! Good luck.

My friends & coworkers know I had the scope so my plan is to tell them I'm having surgery to fix my hiatic hernia that was discovered during my scope so it would explain my food changes in the beginning weeks

Ha, DeAna, that has been what I've been thinking I would say!

Only people that know are the people in my immediate family. The few co-workers that asked about my absence (and change of eating habits) I told that I had a hernia repaired (which I did). I figure its no ones business but mine. I don't think any good would come from telling anyone at my work. They are so negative about everything that it would be more stressful telling them.

Itold almost everyone. I knew it would help Heep me honest. The only thing I dislike is people asking how much unavenged lost. I wish they could stop at " you look great" but I suppose it is just human nature. I have really appreciated all the support from people.

Most of my family and a few close friends know. I have a feeling if I tell people I'm not close to they will judge. And I have this fear that people will say "oh, you only the weight because you got the band." it's still hat work and we still have to do everything anyone else would! but it's completely up to you who you tell! Some people just don't understand.

Only my family knows and my boss obviuosly, since I had to do 2 separate surgeries one in 11/18/11 for my gallbladder removal and my lap band 3 weeks later on 12/9/11. I've told some people at work that I know they been thru the same but sometimes I have to lie to other people. I feel so bad having to lie. I had someone the other day that I have not seen in a while and when she saw me she was like omg you've lost so much weight! What are you doing and she looked me in the eye and was like tell me please! is it diet ? exercise? I didnt know what to say. I said high Protein diet. And then she started asking me but what exactly you eat and so on ...

Thank god there was nodoby else in the office

My boyfriend, mom, and dad are the only people who know in my family. I am pretty sure I will tell everyone I had my gallbladder removed, it's almost the same incisions :) The way I see it is my co-workers, classmates, or friends did not help me decide to get it, and it is none of their concern how I lose weight. This is for me, and it will be my secret :)

I'm a walking billboard. I'm very proud I took control of my life and don't care what anyone thinks. I did this for me I just wish I had done it sooner.

Oh course my husband knows, and I told my sister, my son/daughter-in-law and my friend.

I told all of them this is my story to tell so I would appreciate them keeping it to themselves.

As far as I know they have not told. The people at work just think I am on a diet.

For me, I made the right choice, I have no one preaching, judging or asking me about my weight.

I told absolutely everybody that would listen. Friends, family, coworkers. I even told the guy at the pizza joint because I knew he wouldn't be seeing me anymore!!! Everyone was supportive....except the pizza guy. I was a "cash cow" for him! LOL!! The only person I didn't tell beforehand was my mother, but that was because she's elderly with health problems and I didn't want her worrying and I certainly didn't want her at the hospital. I told her after I got home. There are always going to be people with negative comments and judgmental attitudes but they are few. I find those are the ones who just don't understand. Use the opportunity to educate them. Even now, 4 years and 140 pounds later, I still have no qualms about telling anybody. I keep my before picture on my cell phone and show it to people....I don't particularly like looking at myself though!

Riker990: I told my co-workers and family. I was off work 4 days and I am never out so I knew they would miss me and wonder what happened..then there is that pre-op diet and the liquid diet..everyone is going to find out eventually. When you get to the point that you eat morsals of food and don't have the cakes etc at office get togethers they will know, plus when you start dropping weight like a rock they might ask if you have cancer or something. I am down 95 pounds in 10 months - this isn't something you can hide. Also, by telling, most encouraged me and we very supportive.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
