To Fill Or Not To Fill???

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for 2 years this month. It took about 8 months (with next to no weight loss) and 3 fills before I finally felt restriction. Since my surgery, I've lost 60 lbs. (from 245lbs to 193lbs) and want to lose 25-30 lbs. more. However, I've hit a serious plateau and my weight just doesn't want to budge!!! Uggghhhhh!!! I work out for 40 min. 3 times per week and walk 20-30 min 2 times per week and have been doing so FAITHFULLY for the past 7 weeks. I currently have 7cc's in my 10cc band. I'm noticing that I can eat more than usual and am getting hungry between meals more frequently (I'm starving in the morning). I want to get a "little fill", but am a littled worried because a) I'm embarrassed because I haven't met my goal yet and B) because I still have occasional "stuck" episodes/PB's and am afraid It'll happen more frequently. My husband doesn't like the idea because he doesn't like to see what I go through when food doesn't want to go down. But I'm getting discouraged by my snail like weight loss. Any suggestions?

P.S. Sorry for such a long post.

I will be having my first fill next week. I had my surgery may 2. The first two weeks I lost 15 pounds. I have not lost since. I have no restriction at all and it is so depressing. I feel it's hard to stay on track. If a fill will make things work for you I say do it.

@ luv2sing. I am feeling the same way. I have lost 23 since I was banded but I have NO restriction whatsoever. I don't see my dr until the 28th. I wish it was sooner

I was in the same boat I was hungry more I was able to eat more and did get stuck occasionally but that was only because I took too big of bites and didn't chew well. I was 188-186 from jan- beginning of June I had an appt for a fill in may but like you my husband refused to let me go because he thought I didnt need it because I was still throwing up some but I swore to him it was all my fault because I wasn't eating right so I proved it to him for a couple weeks that I would eat slower and chew better and I stopped throwing up so he agreed to the fill. Long story long lol I got a fill last Monday and I am 182.4 so 4lbs since last Monday I have lost after a 5 month plateau and I feel full all the time even when I wake up I can barely hit 500 calories by 2pm. I would really consider getting another fill even if it's a small one and just chew and take smaller bites! I had 7cc in my 10cc band but now I have 7.5cc and it's a world of difference I believe I am in my green zone!!!! :) good luck!!!

I agree, sometimes PBing is resulting from eating too fast and not chewing your food correctly - it's not always because you have too much restriction. I usually PB when I am hungry and start eating. Deep down - you know if you need a fill or not. If you are eating more than usualy - I think you could probably use a little one.

KimJ384 you've made me feel sooo much better. I talked to my husband and we've decided that I'll go for another fill. I'll be the first to admit that I could take smaller bites and wait longer between bites. I am definitely guilty of eating too fast because I'm always hungry! Hearing of your weight loss after your fill is very encouraging. I'll definitely be making my appointment tomorrow.

Singingmom, PB'ing is "productive burping".

I'm in same situation...not losing and I have just about 30-40 pounds to go. I don't want to fill stuck, had been in green zone but creeping to yellow zone. So, I think a fill is due here in July soon. Again this will put me in a restriction I'm not sure I am ready for. But I want to lose too. The gym has helped but scale not moving. My clothes are looser. Size 24 to a 14 almost 12 on some. It's a tough decision cause I like that I can eat most of the time without stuck episodes.

I can tell you that when you are eating while doing something else and not paying attention to what you are doing you will take larger bites and not chew as well as you need to. This is where people get the "stuck" feeling and it will also cause you to burp. Sometimes the burp will release some of the pressure and sometimes it will not. This is my take.

When I went to my surgeon's office last month I found I had gained 25 pounds since my surgery in October 2011. I got another cc put into my band and since then have been on 800 calories per day. I think this did it for me because I have not had any trouble staying on 800 calories per day. I went to the surgeon's office yesterday and had lost 17 of the 25! I am going to stay on the 800/day until the end of the month. I think I am currently in the "green zone" and did not have a fill this month. I will go to my surgeon's office again next month and see how things are progressing.

Good luck to you!

My doctor said that when he put the band in 4-24-12 that he already put 2 cc in it now 2 mos out they sAid that I need to make a speacial appointment to see the dr and talk about getting a fill and he will decide , and if he does agree to give me a fill the it will only be half cc. And she said the appoint to talk to him will be a couple mos out . That means if I make the appointment today that I will have been band go 4 mos . And still waiting and hoping for a fill, is this normal? Did anyone else start out with 2cc and then 4 mos out get another half cc if I'm lucky ? What was your guy at by the time u was 4 mos out? And how much on average does one need to get? Is 2cc very little and I'm truly hungery and it's not all in my head like I've been told? Am I asking to much to have more fills? Then 2cc ? I feel hungrier and can eat just like before then band , my wieght loss is slow but I've stuck been stuck for like 3 weeks without the scale moving , I'm do afraid that I'm going to start gaining wieght , I'm already on a 500 to 700 cal diet and walking a hour a day , I'm starving I want to fill. Full, help ? I'm confused

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
