Hello, I'm new to this forum...this is actually my first post.

I'm just in the beginning stages of researching lap banding and if it is an option for me. I'm going to an informational seminar put on by a local hospital near me in a couple of weeks. I'm also going to be talking to my primary care physician to see what she knows and to help me determine if my insurance will cover the procedure.

My question at this point is...Are there any good books about lap banding that people recommend? Right now I'm thinking mostly about books that cover Pre and Post Op; Biographical books by people who've had the procedure done; and Cookbooks; but any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

This is the best book ever, I wish I had found it before my surgery.

I also hear the cookbook is great, I will be getting it soon.

Good luck to you.

At my support groups they have talked about this book:

The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life after Bariatric ... of the eating programs for

Lap-Band, gastric bypass, and Duodenal Switch k:

I was told it is available on Amazon, I want to buy it soon!

Mocha Lala, I saw the Emotional First Aid Kit...it looks like some people love it, and as always there's some that really didn't care for it. If you get it, please let me know what you think. :-)

My doctor gave me a really good book. It is called "The Lap-band Solution: A Partnership for Weight Loss" written by Paul O'Brien, MD (2007). It is published by MUP (Melbourne University Press) and The Centre for Bariatric Surgery, Melbourne Australia and the American Institute of Gastric Banding. Well written, easy read, easy to find information and interesting stories. I can highly recommend it. I don't know if it is available on Amazon, but hopefully it is.

PS...I just checked, it is on Amazon and apparently there is a 2011 edition as well.

Hi Woobs, I'd recommend the book written by Dr. Paul O’Brien. "The Lap-Band Solution: A partnership for weight loss" This book was handed to me at my first consultation with True Results. I read it cover to cover in a week and KNEW that the Lap Band journey was for me. It may be difficult but it was the best option for me and my life. Good luck with your decision and God Bless!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
