Looking For A Cincinnati Buddy!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My name is Kristin! I am newly banded, only about a week post op. I was banded by Dr. Curry here in Cincinnati. I'm 27 years old, married, and have an autistic 6 year old son. I'm a stay at home Mom but I'm a consultant for Pure Romance as well. I love music, nature, reading, and photography. I'd love to find friends with similar interests! I also recently started v~blogging on youtube. You can find me there with the same user name, phoenixkristin. :)

Here is my info!

Way awesome! What side of town are you on? I live on the East. Dr. Curry did great with my surgery, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

I'm actually about 1.5hrs north of Cincy. I'm glad to hear that things went well, everyone in his office has been great. Once you got approved how long did it take to get a sugery date?

Oh, okay. So do you travel down to the Cincinnati office?

It didn't take long to get approved or get surgery. I am on BCBS, and typically they would have you do a supervised 6 month diet, however- I was able to bypass that by showing them my years of records from being a Weight Watchers member. So I really just had to go to a couple office visits with Dr. Curry, then schedule my surgery. I scheduled my own surgery a month later than I could've got in- we went on a cruise and I didn't want to be recovering on the ship.

They are all pretty nice though, and all easily accessable. I email back and forth with the dietician and she is prompt in responding. Also, I had to email Dr. C the other day with a question about my incision, and I emailed him a photo along with it so he could see what I was talking about. The office was closed, but he emailed me back in about an hour even though it was his off time.

I give them 2 thumbs up!

I also have BCBS. I didn't think it took long either. My first apt was 5/16 and my approval came Friday. I was excited it was so quick!

I am thinking that I am going to have to schedule my surgery a few weeks later as well, we will be on vacation mid July and I don't want to be recovering then.

I could have went to the Columbus office but he is only there a few days a month and I didn't want to wait! I don't mind the drive, after my first fill I'll probably start going to the Columbus office. How was the preop diet?

I think the preop diet scares me more than anything!

I can see why it would be scary, but it's really not as bad as it sounds. You just have to stay focused. If you get unbearably hungry, email Erin, the dietician. She let me slide with a chicken breast. ;)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
