anyone know if there is still a 6 month pre op diet for bcbs To get approved

I'm currently waiting approval & have BCBS of IL too...I was told that the 6 month pre op diet is no longer inforced. I'm going to the Illinois Bariatric Center and it actually says it on their site, that it's easier to get approval in IL now. There is also a post with many responses in the Insurance section about BCBS of IL if you wanna check it out!

When I had mine in 2011 it was 3 months. A girl at work just got it and they had changed back to 6 months. I have heard it is supposed to be dropping back down though. Just give them a call.

The supervised diet requirement was lifted Feb 1st. I had my surgery March 16th at DayOne Health in Chicago.

Just got mine 8 days ago. We also have BCBS of IL. They were SO NICE about it. No diet requirement anymore. They did require the psych eval., tho. Approval was swift. I don't think they cover fills, tho.

Good luck!! :)

I have BCBS of IL and I got my lapband 9/15/11. Congrats to those of you who are looking to get the approval. I had to do 6 months of supervised diet, but have to admit that it went quicker than I expected it would. Some companies exclude bariatric procedures, but when BCBS IL approves your surgery, they deem it as medically necessary, and they do cover all maintence required as well - and that includes fills. I too thought that they would not cover fills - but I've had a fill every month since being banded, and they've covered every fill.

I have BCBS of IL and was approved today. It took 13 days. No pre-op diet, my signature shows my process! Good Luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
