Unable To Keep Down "real Foods"

I have been banded since 8/26/11, i have 2.3 cc of Fluid in my band and i have lost 60 lbs so i am very happy with my lap bad, but ever since i started getting filled i have trouble keeping "real foods" down. I drink Protein Shakes, Soup, yogurt, sugar free puddings, etc. When i try to eat any kinds of meat such as fish, chicken or veggies i usually end up throwing up. I am starting to feel like i am bulimic. My husband says i try to eat too fast but even when i try to eat slow i still have problems, my doctor does not seem to concerned about it. Does anyone else have this problem?

I was just filled on Monday and am currently dealing with that as well. However, if it hasn't improved by Tuesday I plan on going back in for a slight unfill. Not being able to eat isn't normal.

With that said, I also know it takes me a good 5-7 days after a fill before I can truly return to normal, hence why I am waiting a week.

Your husband may not be far off in his advice. I know after the fill before this one, I had to truly change the way I ate. I had to take very small bites, like the size you'd feed a toddler, and chew until the food is absolute mush. I always use a fork, even with things like sandwiches and pizza, so I don't accidentally eat too big a bite. I have to put my fork down and wait a good 30-60 seconds between bites.

All this was learned by trial and error. Perhaps some of this may help you?

Mis73, thanks for the information on using a fork to eat everything. I think that will be helpful to me.

2.3 cc's is not a lot. Try slowing waaayyy down, taking much smaller bites, and chewing every bite until it's total mush. It should take you at least 20 minutes to eat a cup of food. I use appetizer plates, bowls, spoons and forks so I don't overeat or take too big of a bite.

I have dealt with this same problem for a very long time. Some days I can't even keep liquid down. Today, after apprx 2 years since surgery, I am having all the liquid taken out of my band. My quality of life sucks to say it nicely. I have had problems with slimming ever since I started getting fills. You know things are bad when my young daughter was excited to here I am doing this today. Sorry I don't have any advise to help you with this. I've tried everything and am tired of being a bulimic as well. It is just not worth it any longer.

Vomitting is NOT normal. Knock on wood I have never vomitted or PB'd in almost 2 years. I would talk to your doctor again. Does he know how often you are vomitting? UIt can lead to band slipping. Again this is not normal.

For me, yes, he knows and has no answer for it. I must just be one of the "special" ones! But he does advise LapBand is NOT his first choice of weight loss and I agree with him now. This will be my 3rd unfill and my band had not slipped as of last time. I have had 1/2 cup of coffee today at home (some came up when I bent over this morning....gross I know) and now I'm trying to get my 11 oz Protein Shake down and I sound like a frog here in my office with the internal sounds creeping up from within. I sound like I'm possessed! On a normal day, I can't actually eat real food until well after 6-7 pm and still PB almost after every meal. I can see a lapband being worth this trouble IF I was skinnier but I am not. I would NOT recommend a lap band to anyone at this point. Wasted $$ for me 100% and I had to self pay. Very disappointed.

what is PBing?

It stands for "poductive burping" which is when you burp which can relieve pressure on your band or actually spew out the food/liquid in your pouch. It is not like vomiting food in your stomach--it feels and tastes different (no stomach acid).

Well, PBing (I just call it "throwing up") does relieve the awful burning sensation in the middle of your gut so it is "good" in that it relieves that feeling. It is bad because you aren't really supposed to be eating/drinking in a way that makes you throw up. That is, you shouldn't drink and eat at the same time (this is one of my big problems), you shouldn't be eating fast, you shouldn't be eating a lot at a time--all these things will make you PB.

Apparently also, PBing too much or throwing up too much can lead to a band slip so it is bad. Plus it is no way to live, especially if you PB/throw up a lot (after every meal).

I thought I'd update here, I posted earlier how I was having issues since my last fill. Well, I've figured out I need to take even smaller bites and now I am eating normally again. Just really tiny bites, chewed until mush, and pausing between bites.

I did not throw up at all yesterday, which for me is a victory. I can only eat about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of anything. Yesterday i tried being extra slow and taking even smaller bites and counting to like 30 before the next bite and it seemed to help. I go back to the dr on June 5th so i am going to try to manage until then.

I have a total of 4cc in a 10cc band & since having the last 1 1/2 cc in I too can only live on Protein Drinks, yogurt, c.cheese, & Soup. If I try "regular food" it gets stuck & the only relief is spitting up & out the "slime". I dont see the dr. for 3 more weeks but I think I'm going to ask him to take out the 1 1/2 cc and just deal with "dieting" instead of taking the chance of screwing up my stomach, etc. I try to eat slowly but maybe not slow enough.

Call Tues. And get an unfill!!!! You can not and should not eat this way. Take out .5 and you should be fine. If you can not eat 3 oz solid Protein you are too tight! !

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
