Restriction Getting Worse? Judych

Recommended Posts

Hi, Judych

Have you checked into the possibility that you might perhaps be pregnant? I had the same problem suddenly appear (was too tight, couldn't hold anything down) after I had lost 50 lbs and my doctor discovered I was pregnant.

Have you been having the same restrictions since you got your fill; or did it change? I find certain times of the month I am tighter than other times. When my cycle is approaching and during my cycle, I can not eat much at all; however, a few days after everything goes back to normal.

aww.. this is so sweet .. lol.. it would be a miracle if i was ... im 66 . lol. i agree though, becoming pregnant would do it, as the hormones have a big part to play in how restrictive the band can be.

i have no TOM now... but ive noticed that perhaps the band is a little looser of a morning. i know that when i get stressed or if Im really busy or travelling then it gets tighter as well. It seems to be very sensitive.

Judy, you might have had some fill in your band at the time surgery. I had 2cc in my 10cc band. When I had my unfill, my surgeon and I discussed how much to remove.

It should not take you an hour to eat, and eating solids should not be painful. I have a hard time eating steak, I have to cut it very small and chew like crazy. I get bored eating it before I get full, but it isn't painful.

As elcee said, reheated meats can be difficult to get down, the texture is just off. Also, fish is known to be a sticky food for many of us.

My restriction level changes throughout the day and from day to day. I can eat best around lunch time, so that is my biggest meal in general. But I never know from day to day how much I will be able to consume. I call it my fickle, freaken, foofing band.

That said, what you describe, is too tight in my opinion.

hi Cocoabean. i did ask my dr about whether he put some fill in or not when i saw him post op. he said that he didnt. i had 3 cc's in one go. do you think thats too much? normally, i mean?? ive got a 10 cc band. i would have though maybe he would give me about half that to start with and see how i go??

Im sure now that stress through the day makes the band tighter. i can eat with more comfort of a morning, thats for sure. i had some baked Beans for bfast.. a cracker with some soft cheese for morning tea and it all went down well.

I dont want to have any fill removed if i can help it. i know that ive got to be sensible though... that too tight can cause damage. Plus the fact, i do want to be able to eat better than i am right now. My weight hasnt moved in days but my body is changing shape as i see it from day to day. I know that ive been having some slider foods... a little choc here and there.. nothing else apart from a little ripe cheese of a morning. but my weight hasnt moved. im goign to have to bite the bullet though and have some fill removed. it would be extremely foolish of me to try and ride it out.

These words from Jen75 are gold...live by them EVERY time you get stuck!!!

"2. Definitely go back to liquids for 12-48 hours after a vomiting episode. Eating too quickly afterwards can inflame the esophagus and even though you may or may not be too tight. However, inflammation will make you tighter thus repeating the cycle over and over. (I've done this and finally realized what I was doing wrong) Then start all over introducing puréed and Mushie foods increasing to solids... EVERYTIME you vomit!!! "

Xavier!! Haven't seen you in donkey's years!!

Judych, I don't believe 3cc on a first fill was too much as a general rule, that doesn't mean that it wasn't too much for you. Everyone reacts to fills differently. Some can only handle tiny bits at a time. If memory serves, I had 3cc on my first fill, along with 2cc at surgery. I was fine with that. I did go over on my third (I think it was third) fill. We are going back 4 years now, my memory is somewhat fuzzy.

Needing an unfill is not a sign of failure or defeat, it is just a fact of life in bandland. Chances are you'll be able to get it put back in after a while.

I am actually planning a slight unfill at the moment. I got a fill in September. In February it tightened up very tight for about 6 weeks. I got very sick in April and I am tight again, but not as tight. I am scheduling an Upper GI then a visit with my surgeon soon after that. I'll probably have just a teensy bit taken out to allow me to make better choices. I feel I am leaning too hard on sliders and I don't like that.

i know what you mean by eating slider foods. i started doing that these last two weeks.

im sorry that you have been so unwell. i can understand more now how the band does react to stress and sickness. boy... its sensitive. If anyone had tried to tell me all that before hand i dont think i would have believed all that.

i hope that you are feeling better now... and that you hit the green zone really quickly. AS i type this its coming on midday on thursday. for the last 24 hours ive noticed a huge difference ... all of a sudden, and i dont know why.. in my eating. I havent had an issue with food being stuck in all that time. i had a very small amount of chicken last night. just a couple of mouthfuls. it was o.k... usually chicken is bad. I had a small portion of bacon with one egg for Breakfast this morning and that was good. mind you, i need to really look hard at how big my bites are now. So... im not sure for lunch.. perhaps some Soup? its very cold here. for tea i may have a little pork, a couple of mouthfuls, and a small amount of veges. this will be the deciding factor, how i cope today. if im able to get through today without the pain of food getting stuck, then im going to cancel my unfill scheduled for next thursday. i really do hope that i can eat properly now without any more problems.

If im o.k... it means that after the fill i can expect to be on liquids for two weeks afterwoods... thats a long time. my dr suggested 24 hours. impossible for me. i know that everyone is different.

i dont think im game to try anymore fish though. that was just awful. I dont want a repeat of vomiting like i had then

I had the same issue and had PA remove half of last fill. I did not take care of this issue properly a year aga and had a slip. It has been a roller coaster ride with my weight but am back on track.

I am glad things went a bit better for you. I always have a big learning curve after a fill as to what I can tolerate and how bit my bites can be.

I have an upper GI schedule for Wednesday. I get to eat a barium dipped sandwich, how tasty! Ugh. I've been having quite a bit of heartburn, so it will be interesting to see if I have reflux.

I am on the mend from my illness, it was not band related. I had a horrible blood infection called Sepsis. It brought me mighty low, and the recovery is long, but I am improving, thanks! :)

Some people can only do teensy fills of .1cc or .25cc. My surgeon always said he prefers to sneak up on the green zone than go blasting through it and end up chasing it. I am hoping to just get .1 removed, as long as there isn't something wrong. Which is why I love my surgeon, he makes sure nothing is wrong at this point before adding or removing Fluid. The fill before this last one was a great level for me for a year. This was just a little top-off. I guess a little to big of a little top-off.

cocoabean... im really pleased to hear that you are well on the road to recovery after that sickness.. that was a horrible thing to have to go through. YOur surgeon sounds like he gives his patients the time so you can both talk as much as you need to. thats good. i agree about having small fills. its a better way to go, as we are all different and its unpredictable as to how we will react each time. i was so grateful to get over the 3cc fill. i didnt think i was going to for a while... i didnt want to have to make another trip to the city for an unfill. its not necessary now. my weight has stalled at the moment but im not stressing about that...i look good in my clothes again. I guess i will start losing again when im ready.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
