What is lap band plication? I did the realize band jan 2010 and haven't been happy with it.

This is a good basic animation video on the Plication. They add the band on top of the plication procedure. From my information it makes for faster initial weight loss, they are still measuring the long term results to see if it is MORE or LESS then just having the Lap Band itself.

I think one should really research this. I have read not so wonderful things on the internet about this surgery. Mainly about the folded tissue turning necrotic.

I did a lot research before I did mine, talked to my surgeon on different occasions. You can't believe everything you read on the internet! The way my surgeon did what he calls the iband is so the stomach wont turn necrotic.. its done in the way if needed to be undone it can be without causing damage to the stomach.

I saw my surgeon today and he was so proud of my weight loss and he was so excited about my iband results!

The iband is pretty new with no long term studies (which is one reason I didn't chose it) but with Lapband, bypass and what we know of the sleeve the initial weightloss has different rates(Lapband being slower) but the 5 yr mark is the same.at the end the the average weightloss is the same with all surgeries.

I think the big difference is that with the Plication you lose quicker at first, almost like losing with a gastric bypass (people lose weight quickly right out of the gate). The difference is you also have the band to help maintain and still lose. Almost like having the best of both world (gastric bypass and lap band) except there not rearranging your insides as bad as gastric bypass).

There is a chance of necrosis, but according to my doc and a few people I have talked to that had the plication, the chances are pretty low. Also the plication is reversible. My biggest worry about the band was slippage, which I heard the chance of is kind of low, but from what I am told the plication actually reduces the chance of slippage even more.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
