Recommended Posts

Hi, new to this but just booked in for the Gastric Band June 3rd 2012 at The Hospital Groups Dolan Park Hospital. Wondered if there were any others on here going the same time or same month? Would be good to hear how your feeling and share how we all get on. Hope to hear from you :)

Hi,

I am already banded since 3/7/09 but I went to Dolan Park and it was lovely, your treated so well and made to feel very comfortable, by everyone, including the cleaners you may pass en route to your room.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you. Enjoy the new chapter in your life. It's the best thing I ever did! X

Aw thanks! Can't wait now! 16 sleeps and counting!

Glad you had a good experience, from the sounds of it I have made a good choice.

How are you now a few years on? does it just become a way of life? alot of people on here seem to be obsessed with the food and the calories and the protien and Vitamins and the blah, blah, blah... do you know what I mean???

Its going to come round pretty quick for you now. Are you doing your pre-surgery diet? I lost loads on that diet. Do your friends & family know about your surgery plans?

I am nearly 3 years in my journey and Im losing nicely. Ive had 4 fills and at the moment am comfortable. I also do Atkins as I have PCOS (polycystic ovaries) and that produces more fat cells and the low or non carb helps my weight loss even better.

I do know what you mean - I am not obsessed but some people I have spoken to are and I find it a bit strange and couldnt live that way myself. Each to their own I say. If I fancy something i'll have it, the band helps as I cant eat a lot and cant each many different foods anyway. I think I am filled slightly too much but its just become a way of life for me now, knowing what i can and cant eat.

Let me know how you get on and any questions, this is the place you will live at for the remainder of your life. Its crazy. These people feel like family and some of your closest friends......because they understand exactly.

Hi

I haven.t been given a diet, the nurse just said to lose a few pound before hand so i.m going to start on Monday and have a week at it.

I can.t wait now. My partner was very unsure at first, he is a personal trainer and doesn't understand why i can.t just eat less and exercise more...

But he's supporting me and coming to the hospital with me.

11 sleeps for me :)

Thank you for your advice and take on things. This site is fantastic for support.

Hi Kate, I was banded on the 22nd at Dolan Park by Dr Super! I'm five days post opp & coping ok!

Its a big change & I personally underestimated the commitment afterwards! You do still feel hungry & it doesn't stop you wanting bad food but you have so much more to work for now!

When is your first fill?

Best of Luck x

Hi Aimee,

Firstly congratulations on your banding!!!

I'm starting my pre-op diet in the morning, got 5 - 6 lbs to lose for Sunday which shouldn't be a problem.

This time next week i'll be in Dolan Park and banded hopefully!

How are you finding your post-op diet? Would you mind giving me an example of what you have each day?

They said my first fill would be after about 6 weeks?? I'm going for my fills at the Leeds clinic how about you?

Take care

Kate x

You will be looked after well at Dolan Park they are lovely!

I will be getting my fills in Glasgow as I live in Edinburgh. I do feel the gap between surgery & the fill is too long.

At the moment I am having muller low fat yogurt for Breakfast, half tin of Tomato Soup at lunch & the rest at dinner time! I am hungry though & I have been really emotional as I had not anticipated the hunger, once you eat your ok but not for long! Im sure that will change once I've had my fill!

Good Luck & any questions at all let me know when though im only a couple of weeks ahead of you :-)

xx

Thank you :)

There is a couple of things... when you get to Dolan park do they give you chance for a shower? I have paid to be picked up, they are going to ring to let me know what time I am getting picked up but they said that it's usually around 7am so I'm thinking I could be getting picked up about 5 to 5.30am!!

I've also been told that I am low risk so will possibly one of the last ones in, theres 10 of us that day!!!

How much have you lost so far? And whats your goal if you don't mind me asking.

You will have plenty of time for a bath/shower. I arrived at 8 & was not taken until 1630, I had a lovely bubble bath before I went down to surgery!

Im only 8days post opp & I've not weighed myself, im going to wait for my fill before weighing myself but for the first time ever im really not getting caught up in what the scales say as I know everything will change in time!

Let me know how you get on xx

Hi,

Just wondered how you are doing? Did everything go well?

How are you finding the restriction? And did you get the trapped air and be burping for days on end?

Looking forward to hearing your story.

:o)

I was one of the last on my op day, so take something to read!

ive lost nearly seven stone and wouldn't change a thing - just do as they advise and you will be fine

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
