I knew going into this that it wasn't a quick fix. I read all the information and knew that it was slow and steady. I guess that even though my head knew this, in my heart I was hoping it would be easier. When I dieted before the band, all I thought about was food- and the next meal- and what I could cook for me and my family. I don't know why (I know it's irrational), but I thought the band would help it not be all about the food. Now all I think about is, "How am I going to get all of that Protein in"- especially when I was never a protein eater to begin with, or "What can I eat that doesn't have any sugar or carbs in it?" I am losing weight slowly (1 pound this week- 35 total). I am worn out emotionally. It is taking its toll on me. I didn't even go to church and my MIL's house for lunch after because she never has anything for me to eat there. My husband and kids are noticing that I'm sad and staying to myself in my bedroom. It's just easier than being out where everyone else is eating whatever they want, whenever they want. I know I'm probably just having a pity party, but I am still frustrated at how much harder this is than I thought it would be. I am not finding the freedom from food that I had hoped would be there with the band. Please tell me this is normal and it will get better. :(

I have those feelings too....I think about food just as much as I did before. I think people are lucky if somehow their food thoughts go away after the surgery, but that didn't happen for me. And I'm sad because this hasn't been as easy as I had thought or hoped; I'm not down nearly as much as I had planned. Just be happy you're losing weight, and try to find other positive things to focus on like how long you'll be around for your children now. Feel better!

I hope u get happier very soon! Sometimes, I have just hibernated a bit also, think of it as a personal mini vacation. I read a lot, and watch movies like a madwoman, and after a day or so, I'm back to me! I guess I am very fortunate, the very thot of food makes me sick at times, WHEN I'm filled correctly. I bet u get there too. It takes a while, I promise. Sometimes w boo boos, but it is worth it! :)

You knew it wasn't a quick fix, so put on your big girl panties and stop the pity party. I too am a huge foodie. Was always thinking about what my next meal was going to be. And guess what? It hasn't changed for me. I still think about what I am going to have next. But that has been a huge benefit for me with my weight loss. I plan ahead and know where my calories are going to be. I log everything I eat and just started using myfitnesspal.com and love it. You should join if you haven't already. It's nice to see what other bandsters are eating and it may give you some new ideas too. My user name is holbraden if you want to join and add me.

As far as your mother in law not having anything you can eat. Is it something that you like? Then measure, weigh it out and enjoy it. Unless of course it's food that gets stuck for you. I have brought my own food many places. It doesn't bother me and I enjoy every bite of everything I eat!

Good luck to you.

I have to agree with Dolly. I'm approaching my 4 year anniversary in the bandster club and what a journey it has been! We all have our ups and downs while trying to find our way. At first, my family felt so guilty for eating certain things in front of me because I couldn't eat them. Now, they know that I always come prepared with my own food. I never put myself in the position to be without appropriate foods/portions. You have to work at this as it definitely is not a solution to the behavior that put us in the position of needing gastric surgery. This is a tool to help us. I've struggled with the mindset required to lose weight. I think we all do. Surround yourself with supportive people, stop hibernating and get out and exercise and I guarantee you'll feel better! I've had multiple spinal surgeries, which has resulted in weight gain from time to time. I'm still working on my last 30 lbs and it's tough, but I know if I eat right and exercise I'll get there. I'm an Army brat, so this has been drilled into my brain for years - Adapt and Overcome!

It will get better.. When I'm at the gym or eating all I think of is a slimmer and healthier me.. I don't think about the food and don't want to et te wrong things because I refuse to overdo it and go to the ER. It's a slow process but it will be worthwhile.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
