Cramping After Fill?

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill today. I am kind of cramping in my lower abdomen...is this normal?

Also Doc said that I won't need to come in again unless I have issues or needed another fill. They told me what to look for to let me know once I need another fill. I kind of thought that the doc would follow along every month...but not really the case...what does everyone else do? Just curious.

My surgeon said I must see him every month for the first year, just to make sure I'm doing ok and don't have any issues, regardless of whether or not I need a fill.

From what I understand, this is common for most doctors.

I'm shocked yours just left you on your own so soon. Are you comfortable with it?

I have never had cramping after a fill. Could you be getting your period?

I would be very disappointed in a surgeon that put you out on your own after just one fill! They should be a major part of your ongoing support system. This is a major lifestyle change and you will have questions and need their advice and guidance. My surgeon stresses that aftercare is critical and has been an important part of my support network since surgery 13 months ago.

I'm not required to see my surgeon monthly...I had a two week, a 2 month, a 4 month, a 6 month and then I believe a 12 month. I can go anytime for fills or any other concerns...I have not experienced any cramps after receiving a fill.

I thought the same. He didn't say anything about my weight loss. I honestly just walked in...sat on the table...he stuck the shot thing in my port. I sat up and stood in front of the Xray and swallowed barium...then I was done. he told me to drink Water before I left and gave me a sheet of paper telling me what to look for to determine if I need another fill. Then I was done and the next lady was called in. I did weigh with the nurse before I went back...but it just seemed kind of strange. Seems like everyone else has a little more hands-on and opportunity to ask questions. BTW - he put 2CC's extra in. So I think I have 4.6 altogether.

On the bottom of the sheet he gave me it did say that partnership with your doc is important. I called on my way home...thinking maybe I should have stopped by the desk before I left to make an appointment and that's when the lady told me that i only need to come back in if I need a fill or have issues. But not for maintenance... Not the end of the world...but just wondered what everyone else's experience was like.

I don't really have periods anymore...I have an implanon. But it was pretty low...that's why I thought it kind of weird and it was directly after the fill. Better now...I got it about 4:00pm and its 6:21pm here now.

Im also shocked your dr is acting like that. My Dr. sees me every 6-7 weeks 2 keep me on track, and 2 monitor my progress. I would have a talk with him and find out why he feels that your next fill shoud be when your ready and not when he feel you should have one.....After a fill my Dr. tells me not 2 eat for at least 12 - 24 hours maybe thats why your having stomach cramps.......Feel better....keep your head up and Stay Positive....

I have had cramping after several fills. Just do what doctor says. My team says full liquids for three days and sip sip sip. I've taken liquid Tylenol and at times zofran. They can help u figure that our. I usually take it easy during those three days.

I got my first fill today and she said there's no need to come back until I feel I need another fill (can eat more than 1 hamburger w/out feeling full). I'm personally glad I don't have to keep going back every month or every few months. I have to work and taking that unnecessary time off for me would drive me crazy! So, I really think it depends on the doctor, and the patient. I know I can call if I have any concerns, and that's all I really care about.

I ALWAYS get cramps after a fill. I always know when he hits the right spot on my port because it shoots a cramp across my lower abdomin. Sucks and makes me feel crappy rest of the day. Not sure why

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
