Tight Feeling In Throat...

Recommended Posts

i've been feeling a tightness in my throat for about the past two weeks...it started when i got sick with a cold and was having trouble swallowing thick phlegm...i still have a bit of a cold but my throat feels tight and i am beginning to think it is not related to the cold...i have had two fills since being banded and cancelled my third due to this feeling...i have had three stuck episodes all totally my fault...but this tightness is irritating...no trouble breathing, but swallowing definitely feels weird and this is even when i'm not eating...my band used to be tight only in the mornings and now feels tight all day most days...again this just started about a week ago...anyone else experience this? am i too tight? dehydrated? something else going on? it kinda feels like a constant lump in my throat...not painful just annoying...

I am still waiting for my first fill, and have not had a cold recently...but I have read that feeling "tight" may be alleviated by sipping a hot drink, such as tea.

Another reason may be that your band is too tight.

Either way, I would call your surgeon's office and ask for some advice.

Hope you'll be feeling yourself again real soon! :)

Yes... I go through this when I get sick or before my menstrual cycle. I always go back to liquids (warm ones for me) and give it a week to see if it will go down. Use Mucinex for the thick sinus drainage and my band doctor says take a benadryl for that thick flym every night and last time it was severe congestion so he said use pseudaphed. I have had a few times that it wouldn't resolve and I had to get some Fluid removed from the band. My doctor everything gets irritated and swells and the band gets tight. I always get reflux when my band gets tight and a night cough with the tightness in my chest/throat. It is very miserable!!! Stay hydrated.

I have the tightness-pressure feeling too. I'm 2 weeks post op though and assuming its from inflammation. Truthfully I have had the sensation off and on my whole adult life. After much testing I have come to believe anxiety makes it worse. But now that I'm banded, it's alarming... Always worrying about slips

With the band anxiety or stress definately makes it worse for me.

Wow, I'm going through this too...No fun. Mine seems worse at night when I'm laying flat on my back. I'm thinking I need to get Fluid removed. How are you feeling now?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
