Yes. The first test determined there was an issue and the second was with the CPAP machine to figure out what I needed and if treatment would be effective. Sometimes if the apnea is really apparent during the first test, they will hook you up half way through. My guess is your apena is on the less severe side so they wanted the Dr. to read the results before trying the CPAP.

i read on the net, that after they fit you with the machine, some surgeons wait 6 to 12 months before surgery. is that true?

i had a sleep study done last december (2011) and of course i have severe sleep apnea, but if you lose a lot of weight with the band then you could very well have taken care of the sleep apnea, so I dont understand that if the insurance has approved it then why force you to buy a machine...my machine with insurance was $1500

i dont know that either. I was approved on the 16th and on the 18th, my clinic said guess what, we need a sleep test before you can have surgery. i am very disappointed as i completed all my pre-ops they asked me to do in feb/march and would have completed this one also if they had told me. Will this postpone my surgery?? i really feel just like giving up

My surgeon required 30 day compliance with the CPAP treatment. That means getting the machine and using it at least 4 hours a day for 30 days (I think it was like 70% of the 30 days). Often times it is the anestiologist that requires this because it is his/her job to keep your hear and lungs working during the surgery.

Ugh I did my first sleep study and just got the results back this week saying I need another one. I was suppose to do a split night and be fitted the second half of the night but they didn't do it. My doctor says it's a money game where I live and they do it to get two tests out of your insurance. Hopefully this won't stall my process of getting approved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
