Surgery In The Morning

Recommended Posts

I'm not nervous which is really weird. I'm excited and having mixed feelings. On one hand I'm anxious to be starting a new healthy lifestyle and on the other hand I'm feeling a sense of loss for all the things I'll be loosing. Mainly foods like steak, frieds foods and whatever else i may no longer be able to digest. I have no idea what to expect. Anyone else pre-op and feeling such a range of emotions?

Good luck! I hope your recovery was like mine (not that bad; only the first couple of days). And don't worry about the foods; many people can tolerate everything (which is what my doc said; I can eat anything just smaller amounts). It is definitely a change of eating afterwards. But like everything you will adjust, and as the weight comes off you will feel amazing!

Not that close but my surgery is May 18. I'm excited and anxious too- that's it! Just keep thinking about the new you forget about the stuff you used to eat and explore some band friendly meals.... Keep your focus on the results you will be fine... Praying for your success!

Good luck to you tomorrow. I am one week and one day out since my surgery and today I feel awesome. I hate to give advice, but here goes. Listen to your body and rest, rest, rest. I really talked myself into thinking I'd be up and running in two days and I think I overdid it. I wasn't miserable all the time, but I got overtired and then I felt really bad. When I really started sleeping, taking my pain meds on a schedule (I kind of forgot to take them because I didn't think I felt that bad) I woke up this morning and thought well alright, this is going to be just fine. Let your body heal and you will be great. Let us know how you're doing.

Cant wait to see pics in a month!! I was banded yesterday and trust me, the cravins are a mental thing, once you're banded, you won't think about them anymore! Remember to take your meds exactly as scheduled and there'll be minimal to no pain! :) Good Luck!

I was feeling the same way somewhat, but then I started telling myself that Im not going to death row (like Im never going to eat again). Eventually we will be able to able to eat many things, just in moderation. that is why Im getting the band, for help with control. Try not look at it like you are being deprived, but like you are gaining new life. It is a mind set shift. Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel I am getting banded Wednesday May 2nd I'm not nervous about the actually surgery but maintenance after I want to make this works and follow all the rules so I can be successful..I will def miss all the comfort foods but I figure I have had 24 years of eating all of those foods that weren't good to my body..I now need to repair that. Plus you can still enjoy good tasting food just less portions and healthier choices..I'm sure treating yourself once in a whole isn't out of the question either! Good luck with your journey!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
